Recruiting Lizard Photographs!
Hey all!
It's probably not widely known, but I go to school for art (specifically animation). Right now, I'm designing a little dragon that I might even one day try to model/animate, if I can manage it (that is a LONG way down the line though).
So where do you come in? I need pictures of lizards! This dragon needs a more or less reptilian structure, and will look less like traditional D&D/WoW dragons. That includes the belly to the ground, legs set on the side/not underneath skeletal structure. I am especially interested in straight on PROFILE and HEAD ON shots (that is, directly to the side of the reptile, and directly in front of it), so I can see how the legs, head, and general body structure work. The shot should preferably be at ground-level with the lizard; up-shots and crazy angles are awkward and hard to study.
I can't find many good shots on ol' google, sadly. But I can appeal to you guys--anybody with a lizard pet out there? Would you like to help out?

Re: Recruiting Lizard Photographs!
I own a Skink and a Uromastyx, though I'm not sure if they're really the type of lizards you're looking for. ^^
Do these look like they'd be helpful? If so I can try to snap some 'posed' shots for you, but again..their body types might not be what you're seeking.
(these are just some google pictures for ease of reference)

Re: Recruiting Lizard Photographs!
Hrm...the one on the right (with the spiny texture) looks pretty good. His head is much bigger than what I have in mind, but the leg-shapes are well defined and would probably help out a lot.
Thanks

Hee, yeah...skinks don't have much when it comes to legs. They're like tiny rubber appendages.
Uro's have heads that are quite reminiscent of a turtle, but they do have good dragony looking legs in my opinion. When I get home I'll see how Koopa feels about a photoshoot. ^^

These aren't quite what you requested, but they're what I happen to have handy:

Those are actually quite helpful Mania There's a lot of nice close shots of his (her?) feet and head, which is also hard to find on the internet. I find it's always good to know how the critter you're creating moves, works, etc etc, so every lil' bit helps

Oh, good, I'm glad! I'd offer to get more pictures of Big Lizard (yes, that's her name ) but I'm awful at it. My husband took these.

Re: Recruiting Lizard Photographs!
Aaah, Veph, those are great!
School is being picky and won't load too many imageshack pics, so I'll take a look when I get back to the dorm. But from the few I was able to load, those are fantastic reference pics Great images of his legs, as well as how they connect to the body. I especially love the directly head-on one, since I get a great idea of how the legs connect at the front and a good concept of the ribcage as well. And they gave me other things to consider too, like texture and skin folds! GLEE.
Thank you very much for your help. And thank Koopa for me too, for being a good sport and an even better model XD

If this helps at all heres a picture of my leopard gecko Dante, if you like him and want some more just ask =] hes got plenty of leg.
Re: Recruiting Lizard Photographs!
You might wanna Google the Basilisk Lizard. Back when I was a kid and went through that phase of having weird/neat pets I very much wanted one of these beauties for myself. I was also waaay into dragons (still am but RL came along XD). Id probably have all sorts of lizards and birds all over the place, but alas kiddlings and a Hun that is more into traditional pets puts a damper on all that! I am making due with a sweet little cocatiel that only likes me for some odd reason. /shrug
Edited to add another lizard. The Green Spiny Lizard has beautiful scale definition. Kinda like a green slim Horny Toad. Speaking of Horny Toads, or as some people call em, Horned Lizards. Their head is very interesting with modified scales that look like actual horns much like the majestic Bearded Dragon!
These guys aren't actual pets of mine but I do wish I were able to have em. Hope that counts for something.

Celestial, nice shot! Dante looks quite cute there. Also a nice look at his head which has a very intriguing shape
Tygamoon, thanks for the suggestions (and the pics). That basilisk lizard definitely has some interesting qualities, I'll have to research'em more
