Some relevant points from the signature guidelines, posted by Mania:

• Images used in signatures should be no larger than 800 pixels wide and 300 pixels high. (These guidelines were chosen to try to give members some flexibility in their signatures. I'd really rather not see every post end with an 800x300 image.)
• Signature images shouldn't be any larger than 300KB in file size.

I've noticed people creeping over this limit more and more, and have started receiving some concerns about it, especially animated images.

If your image is over 300 px already, please shrink it. I really didn't want to have to enforce this, but since people are taking more and more liberties, it seems I'm going to have to. Also, if your signature will work well in a size lower than 300 px high, then please consider making it smaller. When 90% of the page is taken up with signatures and 10% is peoples' one-line posts it becomes a bit silly.

Shrunk mine since it was a little to big. Was 330 but now its under that. <3

I'd say try to control oversized artwork too. it's a mess when you are trying to read the forums on a phone.

I think 300 is still way too tall. Too many people go for the max with their flexibility. I finally just turned off seeing sigs, which I'd rather not do. Seeing sigs helps know where in a thread to scroll and its nice seeing some personalized artwork. But the artwork shouldn't be the majority of the post. And for people with signatures, it usually is.

To turn off sigs, "User Control Panel" (top right) -> "Board Preferences" (left) -> "Edit display options" -> "Display signatures".

*pokes siggy* alright mister! I spent ages drawing you so this better look good! As it says, this is a placeholder for a better signature, but the oracle dragon I'd drawn was a little odd looking. Yes, observe my amazing grass drawing skills bleh. I don't like drawing grass. I'll fiddle around with it a bit if it doesn't look quite right
