The simplest solution is certainly that ammo goes away and guns, bows and crossbows just don't ever run out of ammo. More complicated features might be more exciting as you say, but have potential downsides too. Applying fire to your arrows sounds cool, but is ultimately any more interesting than just having a "Fire Shot" ability. Do you really conceive of a lot of situations where you'd rather do Fire damage over physical damage? Having different kinds of arrows sounds interesting until you consider the delivery mechanism of having to "catch them all" through rare drops, badge vendors or the like. As you say, hunters do have a lot of buttons and a pet to manage, so I'm not sure they really need a whole additional mechanic to worry about.

Hmm, having no ammo would be nice. Hehe. Not that I ever run out or... anything...

I'd certainly look forward to not having to pay to do DPS. xD

Re: Ghostcrawler on Cataclysm Ammo Changes
I just fear that Blizzard, in their effort to make everything easier, drops the whole ammo issue completely.
It would, to be honest, take a minor piece of "flavor" from the hunter, who could choose from a variety of different ammo types.
Let's just cross fingers then...

Re: Ghostcrawler on Cataclysm Ammo Changes
i think changing ammo to the relic/totem/libram system would be a fantastic way to really...
1) do some totally awesome proc stuff with ammo
2) stop the need of hunters having to pay to DPS

There are no ammo types to speak of!Karathyriel wrote:I just fear that Blizzard, in their effort to make everything easier, drops the whole ammo issue completely.

Besides arrows and bullets there is a difference in DPS only.
For me, chosing different damage types would be: fire/ice/nature/shadow/physical
BTW, WAR does not use any ammo for ranged combat - no super tax for a class, just to do its job!

Re: Ghostcrawler on Cataclysm Ammo Changes
I actually agree completely with Ghostcrawler's thoughts. While it may be a novel change to have something like a "relic" ammo item, there are so many variables to consider that could seriously end up screwing with the Hunter playing field (eg depending on rare drops for a basic class component).
I'd rather just continue with the ammo method we have now, which has never bothered me, or just up the DPS of ranged weapons and make them ammo-less.

Re: Ghostcrawler on Cataclysm Ammo Changes
I think the easiest thing to do would be to make bullets and arrows like the throwing knives. Turn the ammo slot into an equip slot and take away the amount and replace it with durability. I loved that change on my rogue.

Re: Ghostcrawler on Cataclysm Ammo Changes
Are you aware of the amount of ammo hunters are using?
The durabilty would then have to be going down very slow. I remember Naxxramas-runs where I used up more than 1000 ammo units.
As far as I remember, 'cause I haven't played my rogue in a while, the durability of the throwing weapong went down 1% per use, right?
We'd be left with a broken weapon or ammo after the first few mobs...
And I'm not sure about this, but don't you go down in damage when your weapons are going to waste? That wouldn't be nice at all! Because with exery shot and every wipe, you'll cause less and less damage and when you finally see THE BOSS you aren't able to do him harm... That would suck!

Re: Ghostcrawler on Cataclysm Ammo Changes
The durability drop is alot lower then 1% per use. I think it was going by the same rate that melee weapons do. And as far as I've noticed the durability doesn't effect damage until it is gone. I may be wrong on this though since I'm only going by what I have seen on my rogue. I agree that the durability thing could be bad if it is a high ammo use instance. I know there have been times I've gone through 2k+ arrows when doing a full clear of BRD.

And just think about that new ENG plan for the Shatter Round.. Drop all plans for bullets and arrows.. As it stands now, looks like Blizz is slowly getting rid of the Eng skill all together... There are so many less plans; than gem making and BS,Tailoring,LW... Eng's will be left with making of low lvl weapons... sigh

Re: Ghostcrawler on Cataclysm Ammo Changes
Engineering is a joke already!
It's good enough to level a new hunter - free guns and free ammo. Later on, just drop the skill and do something usefull
BTW, I don't give a rodents rear end about anything coming from GC, he's absolutely clueless about the game.

I wouldn't necessarily say that Ghostcrawler is clueless, but he is a prime example of the second wave of MMO live team (what others have erroneously called the B team).
