Darkmoon Card: Hurricane uses physical hit/crit

Frostheim of WHU passed this nifty tidbit along, so in case anyone missed it:

Some very generous people who have the DMC Hurricane did some testing and emailed me their logs showing that yes, this is now proccing off of the physical hit chance, rather than spell crit chance, and furthermore it’s even using the physical crit multiplier. This is awesome.

No, I have not done the math to see where that puts it now in the trinket rankings, though I suspect that puts it up on top, at least for everyone other than BM, who is still a bit in question (it doesn’t proc of BM or SV’s signature shot, but SV at least gets their mastery affecting it).

Top on my priority queue right now is figuring out how this aimed shot/aoth hotfix is going to affect things for all the specs. Once that settles down again maybe I’ll crunch the numbers again.

With a new month rolling around (and therefore, the Darkmoon Faire!), this is a big deal.

Basically, the hurricane trinket was using a player's SPELL hit before to determine whether the trinket's damage proc would hit a target or not. This was terrible for a physical damage trinket. The trinket is now also using a player's crit modifiers, so the proc can hit even harder than it was before.

This trinket was of dubious quality before the change, even for marks hunters (who had the most likely abilities to proc said trinket in the first place). Now it might actually be on the top of the pile out of the available trinkets for marks and surv hunters, just due to how the trinket works.

BM can use this trinket; it's just not likely to be "the best" from a min-maxing perspective.

The other top trinkets are pretty easily obtained anyway. One is available on the valorous vendor and the other drops off Halfus Wyrmbreaker, the first boss in BoT.

Awesome news Kalliope! Maybe it's karma that I've not been able to see this trinket... Runs off to get it back onto my hunter and out of my Goblins grubby hands.

I need to do some more testing my I think the theory of this being one of the best trinkets now might be true. I had to sit my hunter out on our guild run this week b/c we were short on healers so I took my druid. Pugged into a BoT with my hunter Thursday and the trinket off of Halfus drops. I was the only one who rolled. I'm not positive as I only got to test it on the twins before the group ended up just falling apart, but I think I actually had a slight dps loss by using Essence of Cyclone over the Darkmoon Card.

Oh really? It may depend on the length of the fight too and/or procs....if not, I'll have to change my trinket back out as well, since I'm currently using cyclone over hurricane.

Essence of the Cyclone is really a hunter trinket (rogues and such prefer haste to the crit), so that may be the reason you were the only roller.

The DMC trinkets have always been pretty powerful, hell, through WOTLK it was the best piece of non-raid epics available right up until the release of the ICC five mans.

Aye, I know that. I just couldn't remember if hurricane had actually surpassed cyclone or if it was just really close.
