Hunter pet problem... am I alone?

Unread post by Sukurachi »

I started noticing this a short while back, but it MAY have been going on longer than that.

I will start a fight with a mob, sending in my pet (who is on "Assist").

I shoot my arrows, use my Kill Commands, everything is good.. and then...

The mob dies and suddenly, my pet is running in the completely opposite direction attacking something I hadn't even noticed, that was minding its own business, that I certainly didn't intend on attacking.

I know that I haven't use [Barrage] or [Multi-shot] and accidentally tapped another mob.

So I have no idea how my pet can run off on its own, in the opposite direction and attack a mob without my even targeting it.

I've noticed this on multiple toons (yes,I have a lot of hunters). The only thing they all have in common is being Beast mastery specced. Otherwise, different races, different pets, and varying levels... same issue.

Has ANYONE else come across this? It almost feels as though the old "aggressive" stance for pets has come back.

Yes! I have only started noticing this fairly recently, but it's very frustrating and in cases can be quite risky. I have no idea what causes it, it's happened on multiple different hunter characters with different types of pets, and I am 100% certain that I didn't attack the other mob to cause the pet to go to it after.

Yup, I'm having this issue a lot on my Survival hunter- so it's not BM only. For me, it only happened when I was fighting low-level mobs that I could one-hit. I'd shoot a mob, then my pet, apparently jealous that I got a kill, would run off and kill a completely different mob that I had not aggro'd and that wasn't linked at all.

I thought this until it happened on my 55 alt >.> I figured the mobs were too close and agroed onto the pet but this sounds eerily similuar to other ppls issues!

I remember noticing it just once :) We were on a quick achi FL run, clearing our way to the spider boss, when I noticed my bear suddenly running into one of the sidetunels to take on a small pack a fair distance away. "Uhm, guys, teddy says we should go this way first..." A pet raidleader :P We've had a laugh.

That said I don't think it was the only time, just the only one I have noticed. When I go kill something, I'm usually on quite a murderous spree anyway...

It does seem to be happening more and more with my hunters' pets of late. While it's only anecdotal, it seems to happen to me most often when in an area with a decent concentration of the same type of mobs. Working on yet another hunter this past week, I noticed my pet starting to run off a lot when I was in Gnomergan - not exactly a place where ya want Fluffy aggroing extra stuff to begin with. Earlier, I'd seen it happening in the Northern Barrens in the area where there are a lot of harpies in close together.

Oh so happy to see this. I was doubting my experiences. Me and my husband both have pets that seem to discover their aggresive stance back. I have the feeling it happens more in old content stuff. But my husband's wolf went berserk in Scarlet something too. I just wish it would do this in pvp

Oh yeah, Scarlet Monastery, when you're clearing up to Brother Korloff. I ran into issues there on my 90 hunter on Sunday. My wolf was like "Hey, you just keep shooting at those guys in front of you, I'm gonna head way over there and grab some extra guys, 'kay?" Fortunately, most heroic lfg groups way outgear the dungeons, so a hyper pet doesn't cause a wipe.

Oh, and another thing that's happened to me a couple times on a lowbie was my pet and a mob having a flashback to TBC and doing the idiot dance toward the horizon. Been a long time since I've seen that happen.

This definitely has happened to me, too. I figured my pets were just restless and maybe a little too bloodthirsty at the time.
