what if

Unread post by Kurenio »

next expansion blizzard decided to finally update all the models... and with the update they gave each model their actually full dance?

I for one would think it would be a nightmare for months... there will be 50 million naked fem nelfs in stormwind dancing >.>

id love to see a model update and while it'd be nightmare to many, id think it'd be quite hilarious to see a ton of NE's dancing naked in the middle of SW, ive only seen it happen once and it was luls xD

What do you mean by "actually full dance"? Do you mean that every character would have access to all the other race/gender dances? If so, I think all my characters would use the male troll dance, including my female nelf. :)

Of course, if I were into pvp, then all my pvp toons would have to use either of the gnome dances!

Oh wait, the female orc dance is awesome...I can't decide.

I mean their full dance. For instance fem night elfs only do part of the actual dance which can be found here

There could be some kind of copyright reason for that. Where if they just use a few basic moves it's allright as I mean.. the concept of the move isn't THAT unique. However, if they were to take the entire choreography... Well, dancing and choreography is an art form. It would be like if they were to take artwork, or some band's song and use it in the game. They'd need permission.. and possibly, if the person who "owns" the dance wanted, have to pay royalties or a licensing fee. Obviously, I can't say for certain, but...

Meh, maybe this is my personal preferences showing through, but I don't find her dancing that interesting. After all these years, my nelf would rather be doing a completely different dance for once.

Even so that is nothing blizzard themselves could not afford if they wanted to do it.

that dance in the video is the night elf dance? To me it looks nothing like the night elf dance what so ever o_O i can see she moves sideways and makes the wave motion with her body but its not even close the the night elf version, and most definitely her wave motion facing the crowd where she has her hands on her thighs doesnt look like the night elves drop to the ground

That dance is indeed where the night elf female dance comes from.

I agree that it hardly resembles the nelf dance at all. XD I think Blizz took a bit of creative license there.

But yes, that would be cool. I wouldn't mind a model update.

I'd probably go back to being a human if they updated the models.

Retexturing the models wouldn't take too long either.
I seriously wonder why they haven't yet considering it's a good way to bring people "back" to the game.

Well it would take more then you think. Blizzard already said that it isn't as simple as upping the poly count on them. It would involve making new skeletons for each race. Then that would mean needing to make new emotes for the new skeletons. Then they have to go threw every piece of gear and fit them to that new skeleton.

EDIT: by emotes I mean animations.

If they keep the dances the same they don't need a new skeleton.

They CAN work with the one they have now. It'd just take a bit of effort to avoid clipping...which is already rampant enough.

Well I'm just quoting what blizzard said themselves. They said that to update they models they would have to update the skeletons which then effect a ton of other things.

They've also said they don't want to do it in order to keep people from crying "OMG you changed my race! I don't like it, I want it back!". Or, I saw that excuse at some point. Which makes me just think that for some reason or another they don't want to.

I also agree that the skeleton shouldn't be that good of a reason. I haven't done much animation.. but I mean.. they already apply standard skeletons to new mounts and all that (ravenlord got the raptor animation, firehawk got the proto-drake animations), so really, I don't see that as a valid reason, since applying old animations/skeletons to new models SHOULD be something they have PLENTY of experience with.

So, my vote is that there's some other reason, that they simply won't say... Because they know people wouldn't stand for it. So they have PR come up with something that sounds legit.

I suspect that the accountants don't see the cost/benefit working out for doing it, is all; the resources would be better spent elsewhere by that reckoning.

They could, though, increase the polygons in the faces & hair without having to go all that work elsewhere, and that'd be what would matter for most of us; our characters are generally fully dressed (in armor that's of much higher model quality than the character bodies, no less) and thus the exposed bits are what really matters.

Well raven lord has the skeleton of a raptor I believe crystal, and I know the firehawks use a protodrake skeleton just with a new skin.

That's my point, and I believe what I said anyways, if you take another read :). It goes to PROVE that they CAN apply old skeletons to new models. Which means them giving that as a reason for not redoing the race models seems a bit odd, and more like an excuse than a legitimate reason.
