DPS/Damage Meters?

Unread post by Nikrosnil »

Does anyone know where I can get a DPS/Damage meter for WoW that's compatible with mac? I don;t know how to measure my DPS, and want to practice, to see how much I can do.

Hmm, well I use Recount which is a great addon, but I have no idea about it's Mac compatibility.

I also use Recount but I don't think that it matters on which kind of computer you run WoW and the addons.
They are written in a special LUA language and run inside WoW, so the the addon should be working, regardless of the plattform.
I think, Curse Gaming is a rather good source for Addons and with their Curse Client, it's easy to keep them updated.

All addons should work on what ever computer you use, and I play on a mac personally. I do own an IBM and a HP as well.

Recount is the most popular dps meter out there. It also tends to be fairly reliable unless you lag a lot.

Yup, it's a great tool, has lots of neat options too. :D

The best way to measure your personal DPS is to head to one of the Training Dummies in a major city (I usually choose one like Undercity since there's hardly anyone there, whereas the Orgrimmar ones are usually crowded). Use the ?? Boss one since that would be most accurate, then set your recount for DPS and wail away at it until your out of mana. Do it a few times and get the average from those sessions for the best result.

Some people say not to use cooldowns, but I usually do once at the beginning just like I would do for a real boss fight.

Yeah for the record I play on a mac, and Recount works fine :)

As for measuring DPS, I think the standard is to do it unbuffed, other than what you can provide for yourself. Buffs will only make you go up, but I always see people calling for "X amount of dps unbuffed" when raiding.

Just a little addendum to what people already have said:

Recount is a rather heavy addon, due to it communicating A LOT with other players... I went and downloaded Skada (also available on wow.curse.com) and it's a lot lighter. In your addons folder before logging in, you can disable the modules of it that you're not interested in (healing, absorbs, damage taken, threat...) and just leave damage and dps. Works brilliantly, and I lag a lot less in large settings like raids and BGs. :)

Edit: I play on a macbook, and yeah, addons aren't comp specific.

Recount is the name of the game.

Also, if you're recording DPS on dummies, might be careful if there are any type of multi target hitting abilities flying around. Sometimes they hit other nearby dummies and fiddle faddle the numbers.
