Graphical Oddity after large patch - Outlines [Image Heavy]

Unread post by Vephriel »

So when the big 4.0.1 came out a number of us noticed some odd graphic glitches, first on wolves, but later on in more things.

It seems a lot of flat details suddenly have a noticeable outline...and it doesn't look great. =/

Examples:

Coyote Wolf models have it around their fur ruffs.
Image

Worg models have lines on their tail.
Image

Along with the fur issue.

Hanging vines

Iron fences

Also Arcturis' teeth have the same outline, but I don't have an image.

I submitted a ticket about it, but I got the standard pre-written reply of checking my addons and UI settings, etc. All of us are seeing the same thing. I don't see this being an intended change, as it looks pretty terrible on most things.

I've seen the same thing you're talking about with the wolves. The outlines on the ends of their fur and those extra lines look so bad sticking out like a sore thumb. Sounds like whichever GM replied to you didn't take your note seriously.

I'm rather peeved about the wolves. I finally have the stable slots to get my white one, and now he has that horrible outline problem. I might also make a thread on the WoW forums pointing it out, since I really can't see it being intentional. >.<

I've noticed this to...what I think it is is they are slowly adding in the upgraded graphics and its causing graphical issues for those who have graphics set low.

I've also noticed that a lot pf places look like they've been hit with the "blur" tool, until things fully load up, which in Dal...can take awhile.

My graphics setting are pretty much maxed, but I did play around and try adjusting to different settings but had the outline in each case. Hopefully it's just a hiccup while they're implementing new things.

The blur thing I get a lot when I first log in. Everything's just a blurry texture for a second until the crisp ones load.

I didn't notice it until you mentioned it. It almost looks like alpha anti-aliasing gone wrong, but it's not even on... Strange.

I only have my graphics are only set at fair at best and I can see this. That's only as much as my computer can handle.

They should also fix the water for people like me, no matter how low our graphics has to be. I've seen it to be better looking before the patch and my computer hasn't changed. The way I see it now is the water has almost no detail on its surface like ripples and it flashes a lot. I sure hope they fix that before someone gets a seizure from it. When I said once in guild chat I kept seeing pools of milk, I wasn't kidding. It could be my graphics card but I think it's a graphical anomaly just like the other things you've shown here.

It's like that on the tail of my SPriest's Skeletal Warhorse. When he goes Shadowform it's a giant white outline in the middle of the dark purple shadows.

I have weird disjointed fel steed tail, if it adds at all. There's a part where it just...seems to disconnected, but only when running. Let me see if I can get a screeny.

Edit: Screenies! What you're looking for though is at the tail, there's a part, that when running, causes it to have a very large gap between the main part and the tip, more or less.

I noticed this too with wolf pets. Oddly, all of these models shown in this topic are fine in the Model Viewer, so it's a graphic glitch on Blizzard's part in the game and not anything has changed with the models/skins.

Ya kamoodle the new water looked like milk to me as well so I turned it off. My computer can handle higher graphics fine but the thick, white color of the water bugged me so much.

It drives me nuts. I try very hard to ignore it...but ARGH. Please, Blizz. Fix my horse's tail! Otherwise I'll just buy a not flamey pony, and then I wouldn't be a warlock. D:

I don't have a screen shots, but I've also noticed the neck fur on my while talkbuk is outlined now too.
It's probably the same with the other fur colors... it just stands out more on the white one. :(

Seconded. If anyone figures out how to fix this, let me know; I had assumed it was to do with the new graphics or something--more noticeable with crisp textures--but now I'm not so sure. It is MEGA irritating; it's unnoticeable on Old Cliff Jumper so I've actually decided to level and use him until it's fixed.

I've attached a few screenshots here, cropped and resized. I also included one of Arcturis's teeth--I couldn't see an outline on 'em though. On the worgs, sadly, it's pretty clear : /

Edit--I run at Ultra everything.

Well, I went ahead and started a thread in the Bug Report Forum:

If anyone has more screenies or examples they want to chime in feel free to. :)

Okay, I set my water details down to low from fair and that made the water look normal again.

Ah, yes. I was focusing on the outline thingies, but you're more than welcome to write about the tails (and give it a bump ;D)!
