Apparently several devs have that title, one of them being Ion? I've seen speculation that they wanted a super special mount most players can't get and this is just a cover :\
Would have been nice as a drop from the new rares or some upcoming dungeon/raid.
I've only seen someone using the title/old mount once and I've been playing since 2006.

I doubt they did something like that just to give themselves a mount. It's not quite that bad.. I think? I hope. I mean, I once thought Blizzard would have the integrity to ban Scarab Lords that cheesed it, but they didn't do so either.

What I do know is that Ion (he's an OG Scarab Lord, yes), once commented that he felt he didn't get enough praise when he was on his Black Qiraji Battle Tank.

That just flabbergasted me.

Well, maybe he'll get the attention he needs now. Maybe it won't be good attention, but for some people any attention is good attention. "That's a good dev, just look at you with your fancy mount! Who's a good dev! You're a good dev!" The best. Believe me.

Doubtful.

For the surprising many that are upset about this decision that honestly shafts current players, there are plenty more that either don't care or respond with "shut up entitled whiners you can't get everything for once boo hoo let them have their prestige.", as if that was ever the argument.

I'm rather doubtful they did this just to give themselves a special mount. As for banning those who got it during Wrath, you can't really ban them for something that didn't break anything in the ToS. It was an oversight of Blizz to have the gates be closed on those new servers, and players just took advantage of that and how easy it was to complete the old questline.

Don't players get banned all the time for making use of bugs or unintended side effects that allows them to do such stuff? Like progression raiders using tricks to exploit the boss. It was a fault left in by Blizzard, but they get their progression set back and their accounts temporarily banned.

And if not banned, the mount and title should at least have been taken away.

I really don't think they can keep WoTLK Scarab Lords around and at the same time act as if there's any prestige in being a Scarab Lord. Those are two fundamentally contradictory positions to hold, yet they did so by not only letting WoTLK Scarab Lords keep their stuff, but rewarding them with a new mount for free as well.

But that's just my opinion. I think it's kind of a double-standard. Especially when this was also the very expansion where they added a HD Corrupted Ashbringer for any Paladin to get.

That aside, I really doubt they did this for themselves, even if I find it very.. concerning that one of the main WoW devs felt he didn't get enough praise for running around on his special mount, which, technically, was far more of a guild effort than a solo effort.

It depends on the nature of the bug. Normally, it comes down to whether using that bug breaks the ToS. Most recently, 7.3.5 caused the rares and bosses in Zul'farrak to drop weapons, armor, coins, and bijous from the original Zul'gurub. The bug remained in for about six hours after it was discovered, but those who got took advantage of it still got to keep the weapons and armor. The Bijous were deleted if you logged, but that would happen even before the bug fix.

Another recent bug was that the trash mobs in Arcatraz would drop the Raven Lord mount. Instead of having to run Sethekk Halls just once a day for a chance at the mount, you could just spam Arcatraz till you got it. I'm not sure how long this bug lasted, but those who got it whilst it was around were able to keep it.

After 7.3 was released, the Green Infernal mount was dropping from LFR Gul'dan. Normally, it only drops in Normal and Heroic. This bug lasted for a day or two before it was fixed, but those that got it from LFR Gul'dan during this time were able to keep it.

Bugs happen, and there is no way Blizz can prevent any from happening. If something like the examples above happens, then Blizz really can only fix it. If they choose to remove the items, then that is what they do, but I can't see them banning people for something that isn't even against the ToS. If that were the case, most of us here would be banned for taming particular pets that were never supposed to be tamable.
