Soloing VP, then getting help which pays off!

Unread post by MaximumOverdrive »

I didn't see a thread about it, so I thought I'd make a bit of a post on it. I mean, about the soloing VP part, sorry.

Earlier in the week, I did manage to solo VP to the second boss. It was fairly easy for the most part, as I just stealthed around all the mobs and got to the first boss rather quickly with lil to no trouble. I used a shale spider for tanking so I could get that extra lil buff, as I was needing it more than the pet was. The boss went down without much of a hitch, when I took damage, I used my Naruu (I'm a draenei) and maybe a bandage. Easy peezy. Next area, I again just stealthed by everything and got to the second boss. This is where it got fun.

He would be a fairly easy boss if his chilling breath didn't hurt so much, and he always targets a player with it, and never the pet. It took me about 8 tries to get him down, but eventually I did. It involved a lot of timing with feign death (his chilling breath has a much shorter cd than feign death), deterrence, Naruu and a couple of bandages. He wasn't hurting my pet too badly, tho I did have to keep mend pet up at all times. But for timing on the feign death...pretty much as soon as he glances in you're direction, you need to use it...if you use it while he's halfway done casting it, you get hit anyways. Used deterrence for one of the times FD was on cd, and after getting hit a couple of times with chilling breath, I'd use my Naruu or bandage, usually between FD. It took a bit, but he did go down. No mount tho.

Trying to solo the boss was a bit tedious, so later I asked a druid boomkin friend of mine if he wanted to farm for the mount with me. Obviously, 50% chance on getting the mount if it drops is better than the 20% chance from if I was in a group...plus I feel better if a guildie got it.

So, with him stealthing along with me to the bosses, we killed them pretty quickly, and with his heals, never had a problem with dieing. We killed the second boss really easily with lil to no problems. We did about 3 runs (which took less than 10 min to do) and we went off to try to get the BoT trash farm we had planned together. Sadly the GM and another important player didn't show up and our main tank was afk, so we rescheduled the run for tomorrow.

So we went back into VP, and did 4 more runs. The last run, I was having some problems as mobs kept seeing me and I kept getting killed, heh. Eventually I made it thru and we downed the bosses again (and I made a comment about him winning everything from the bosses in the last 4 runs, then he made a comment about the mount dropping next and it was payment for winning the mount, along with me dying alot lol). We get the dragon boss down on the last run and bam! There's the mount! First time I've ever seen it drop! I think I squealed into the mic, which he just started laughing at. Anyways, I hit need, and he does a drumroll and takes a while to roll for suspense reasons, (he's a pretty funny guy), and next thing I know...he hits pass and lets me have the mount. At first, I was a bit shocked, then told him he didn't have to do that, that I was totally for him also getting to roll on it. He just said that he knew I had been in this dungeon 100+ times trying to get the mount. I was really thankful at him letting me have it, he just said we can keep farming VP til he gets it, which I'm all for!

Sadly tho, we went to reset it, and we get "You've been in too many instances". That figures, ha! We thought about doing Kara (we were both saved to the first boss anyways), but of course we can't go in there either. Oh well. So we'll be trying to do runs again until he gets his. Also gunna try to help him (again) get Chrommie on his hunter...we're just hoping that stupid bug is gone by now.

I love my guild...there are a lot of nice people in it.

Nice, congrats! I didn't realize this mount could drop off normal too, so I had thought it unfarmable but now I've convinced my pocket pally to work on getting his resto druid to 85 so we can try farming this one too :D

Not sure how easy it'll be with a pally, but probably won't be bad, just take a while to do, as me and the druid just sneaked by everything lol

Wow, thanks to your guide we gave it a shot and it worked great, even with an 84 druid :) We easily did 5 runs back to back. No mount, but we were happy with how smoothly it went so hopefully soon I'll be able to add this guy to my collection.

I swear it only dropped on heroic in Wrath... right? Because a friend and I used to have races on our DK tanks soloing normal.

You're thinking Utgarde Pinnacle. This is Vortex Pinnacle :) in Uldum.

8 runs so far... my goal is to get it before 4.1 in case they stealthily tie the trash to the bosses or something, cos that would be a pain.

Probably be a smart idea, I wish you luck! Tho what will probably end up happening is they remove it from normal :(
