Mana ray mount rider position

Is this intentional? The mount looks cool to me, but the rider positioning on the second looks incredibly awkward and offputting.

Agreed. I want to love the Mana Ray mounts, but there are a few things about them that bug me.

Their size: they are too small, which also means the clipping is more heavy. Then, as you said, their flight idle that sends your character flying back and holding on for dear life and lastly the reins. If you have no intention of having the characters even touch them, just don't model them, or model them lying on the seat, because having them clip through the rider's waist is just awkward. Wonder if it can be fixed by changing the scale on the ray.

You've also got the weird idle gliding it does if you take off from the ground straight to flying. It will remain idling while you fly at what looks like, quite literally, breakneck speed, and will take a good few seconds before it rights itself to flapping like it should do.

It's one of the reasons I haven't used them much - the really long pause between idle and flying when you take off just looks weird.

I also have my disliking to the mount special it does, but that's going a little off topic.

its worse for tauren/dranei you seem to slouch back a bit more then average, wish they would test them before releasing mounts.. or scale them better

I've noticed even more oddities. If you hover in the air, the animation is different depending on if you strafe left or strafe right.

I've also seen times where the flying animation was in reverse. It looked so weird, but would correct once I stopped and started again.

Since I haven't seen mention of it on here yet, I wanted to share that they are fixing the idle flying position in 7.3.2. Will be similar to the Nether Ray idle flying position.

Good to know! I must have missed that in the notes.

The strafing animation is also fixed.

Just about any rider position is better than what we had in the air now, but I wonder why they didn't just use the current ground animation for air. I don't see anything wrong with the current ground idle, and would look just as fine as what they went with on the PTR. That being said, I personally loved the way the mount itself looks in air idle and hate to see it go. They would have to change the arc of the back or something or fix the rider position though. The changes do fix the problem, but at the cost of some of the uniqueness I liked about them. Such is the price I suppose!

Mana Rays (mounts, battle pets haven't been changed) fly much closer to the ground in general now.

Same posture for flying idle

As an aside, the horn or fin on the head seems to have been sized down. I've no idea why, and I've no idea what I think of it, personally.

The change is great but it’s had an unfortunate effect on a few pathing NPCs: https://us.battle.net/forums/en/wow/topic/20759379144

I wonder why they touched the non-mount model. I also reported how the hunter pet versions are weirdly low too.

Looks like they actually moved the ride position forward too, so I guess they had to shorten the horn or ..'ouch' in the groin ;)

Really glad they have fixed this .. love these mounts :)

Yeah, the fin had some...uh... Unfortunate clipping issues on larger models already, I'm sure they shrunk it for that reason, haha.
