Magnakilro's Guide to the Volcanic Stone Drake

Unread post by Magnakilro »

*Descends down from the heavens, surrounded by angellic singing and punching*

Hello form peoples! Welcome to another round of doing stuff for shinies that makes us feel oh so swell.

So far we've solo farmed Slabhide for the Vitreous Stone Drake, and solo'ed Skadi for a Blue Proto Drake....

Now let's try something....a little different.

The Volcanic Stone Drake is Cata's version of the Red Proto Drake (I have a guide for the red proto....just check Veph's Resource thread). It is a stone drake with red crystals jutting out of its body. It is mailed to you upon completion of the achievement "Glory of the Cataclysm Hero"

Here's what you'll need:

1: a group that can follow directions and is ready for this stuff

Once you have all of those things....your ready to begin!

Blackrock Caverns:
Achs: "Crushing Bones and Cracking Skulls", "Arrested Development", "Too Hot To Handle", "Ascendant Descending"

1: Crushing Bones and Cracking Skulls:
Boss needed: Rom'ogg Bonecrusher
Description: Cause Rom'ogg to kill 10 Angered Earth adds with Skullcracker, then kill him
Strat: Very easy. The adds are summoned by his Quake ability. Ignore them until Skullcracker. When your in the Chains of Woe, kill the chains quickly. As you are escaping, slow or root some adds and watch as he takes the out in one fell swoop. You don't actually need to slow or root them. He'll end up hitting a few on his own. Just let 10 die this way, then kill Rom'ogg.

2: Arrested Development
Boss Needed: Corla, the Herald of Twilight
Description: Allow Corla's adds to evolve, then kill them, then kill Corla.
Strat: This ach is easiest if you take your time. Designate an add to kill first. The other two are kept from evolving just as you would during the normal fight. The add to kill is ignored till evolution. Tank picks up add. Nuke the add down FAST. It hits very hard. Interrupt Corla's fear and the add's Shadow Strike (the add will attempt to use this as soon as it evolves.) After the first add dies, wait a bit for mana to regen and CD to go off...cd. This boss doesn't enrage, so take your time, don't rush. When everyone is ready, release the second add, and repeat what you've done for the first one. After he dies, heal up, mana up, wait on CD's, then unleash 3rd add. Do what you've done for the other two. With all adds dead, nuke down Corla.

3: Too Hot to Handle
Boss Needed: Karsh Steelbender
Description: Allow Karsh to gain 15 or more stacks of Superheated Quicksilver Armor
Strat: Handle the fight just like you would if you didn't want the ach. Just add stacks slowly until he hits 15. At that point. you can let stacks drop, then kill the adds. Kill boss as normal.

4: Ascendant Descending
Boss Needed: Ascendant Lord Obsidius
Description: kill Obsidius without anyone getting 4 stacks of Crepuscular Veil.
Strat: This can be pretty tough. Crepuscular Veil is a stacking Healing reduction debuff the adds cast when near people in your group, whether they are the target or not so you'll need a good kiter. The adds respond to the most recent Threat (as in...the guy that hit them last) Frost Mages are great for this. The mage can use all of its snares and Frost Nova to keep adds away from everyone. Between Improved Cone of Cold, Frost Nova, and Water Elemental's Freeze ability, the mage should hardly get hit. When Obsidius switches with an add, use Ice Lance on the loose add, then continue to kiting. You will hafta do this twice during the fight. Just kill Obsidius while the kiter does his/her thing.

Note: Adds can not be encased in Ice (Frost Tomb thingy from mages, Freeze Trap from hunters)

Throne of the Tides
Achs: "Old Faithful" "Prince of Tides"

1: Old Faithful
Boss Needed: Lady Naz'jar
Description: Cause Lady Naz'jar to kill an add with Geyser.
Strat: Easy. Kill the 2 caster adds, then lower the melee add's hp. Clump up on him so Geyser is aimed under the add. CC the add and get away from the Geyser and watch it die. Also, a Priest can MC a add and let it stand in the Geyser. Boss does not need to die.

2: Prince of Tides
Boss Needed: Ozumat
Description: Kill an Unyielding Behemoth during Phase 3
Strat: Very Easy. When the Behemoth spawns in Phase 1, keep it alive until phase 3 (when you kill Ozumat), then kill the add. Boss does not need to die.

Stonecore
Ach: "Rotten to the Core"

1: Rotten to the Core
Boss Needed: High Priestess Azil
Description: While fighting Azil, kill 60 of her adds in 10 secs.
Strat: Easy. There are 60 adds standing in front of you when you get to her. Pull all of em, then pull Azil. AoE down all adds. Azil does not need to die. Remember that Azil MUST be engaged for this ach to count. Also you only get 1 shot with this method as these adds do not respawn.

Vortex Pinnacle
Achs: "Extra Credit Bonus Stage", "No Static At All"

1: Extra Credit Bonus Stage
Boss Needed: None really...but it helps to have cleared up to Asaad.
Description: Collect 5 Golden Orbs in one run.
Strat: Easy....you can do this after the instance is cleared. Just look off the edges, and such. Remember that falling is safe in this dungeon. If you want the orbs floating in Altairus's room, you'll need to get them during the boss fight. You need to use his tornadoes to launch high enough to grab the orbs. If you've been grabbing every orb up to this point, you should have 5 now.

2: No Static At All
Boss Needed: Asaad
Description: Kill Asaad without being effected by Static Cling
Strat: Easy. Just jump AS SOON AS you see him start casting Static Cling. The first cling he casts has no warning, so watch for it. After that, he casts it after a Chain Lightning. This ach is Individual Skill...if the rest of the group fails, you are still in the running.

Lost City of the Tol'vir
Achs: "Acrocalypse Now", "Kill it With Fire", "Headed South"

1: Acrocalypse Now
Boss Needed: Lockmaw
Description: Kill 20 Frenzied Crocalisks in 10 secs while fighting Lockmaw
Strat: Kinda tough. One way is to have dps kite adds with mounts. Just run around on mounts with crocs in tow. If tank or healer get's marked, tank picks them up. After about 5 or 6 Marks, you should have enough crocs. AoE em down fast. Lockmaw does not need to die.

2: Kill it With Fire
Boss Needed: High Prophet Barim
Description: Kill 3 of the soul things summoned by the Dark Pheonix in phase 2 while they have the Burning Soul debuff.
Strat: Easy. Kite the dark pheonix over fires left over by Pheonix in phase 1, which gives them the Burning Souls debuff. Just nuke down the souls while they have the debuff. Barim does not need to die.

3: Headed South
Boss Needed: Siamat
Description: Kill Siamat while you have 3 stacks of Lightning Charge
Strat: Lightning Charge is applied to you when a Servant of Siamat add is killed near you. He summons 3 Servants during phase 1 and after that, no more are summoned. What you wanna do is ignore the frst two Servants he summons. Mark em so you know where they are. When the third servant spawns, kill it near the group. This particular servant will drop Siamat's shield when killed. When they die, the Servants cast an attack called Thunder Crash that applies Lightning Charge to nearby targets. The charge lasts 30 secs. Dps Siamat a bit, then get hit by another dead Servant's Thunder Crash to gain a stack and refresh it. Continue nuking, then kill the third add to increase stacks to 3 and refresh. Nuke Siamat HARD before debuff expires. This is an INDIVIDUAL SKILL ach, you don't need the group to get stacks. This is very heal intensive...especially if your trying to get it for the entire group.

Halls of Origination
Achs: "I Hate That Song", "Straw That Broke The Camel's Back", "Faster Than The Speed of Light", "Sun of a...."

1: I Hate That Song
Boss Needed: Temple Guardian Anhuur
Description: Kill Anhuur without letting him cast Reverbating Hymn for more than 15 secs.
Strat: For this ach, the levers need to be pulled at around the same time, then interrupt the boss immediately. When Anhuur pops shield, ppl distracting snakes, and lever pullers jump down and do their thing. Interrupt the Hymn FAST. Do this for both shield phases. Alternatively, a hunter can shoot an Explosive Trap at the adds to distract them. A healer can also distract by healing their target. When Anhuur is interrupted, kill snakes then keep fighting.

2: Straw That Broke the Camel's Back
Boss Needed: Earthrager Ptah
Description: Kill Ptah while riding a camel.
Strat: Easy. In Ptah's area, kill the trash at the bottom of the steps (with the camels) and at the top (with Ptah). Now mount the camels and begin combat. The camels increase your movement speed and allow casting while moving. However, pet classes are unable to use their pets if a camel is being ridden. To get the ach, just fight Ptah as normal, trying even harder to avoid Spikes (P1) and Quicksand (P2).

3: Faster Than the Speed of Light
Boss Needed: None but Anraphet is involved with the ending.
Description: Clear the Vault of Lights encounter in 5 mins.
Strat: A bit tough. Timer starts as soon as you tell Brann to open the door. This takes 10 secs. You now need to quickly kill the 4 elementals. Try to avoid trogg packs. If you can't, then ignore the troggs till you reach an elemental. Nuke the elementals FAST. At around 20%, drag the elemental to the next one while killing it. When all 4 are dead, you hafta wait for Anraphet to appear to earn the ach. This takes like 20-ish secs.

4: Sun of a...
Boss needed: Rajh
Description: Kill Rajh before letting him complete a recharge Phase.
Strat: This can be tricky. It relies on RNG mainly. You need to kill Rajh before he refills his Energy to 100%. During Phase 1, you will want to milk it as much as possible by interrupting his casts (when possible). Try to drag him to a corner as well so you have more dps time before he begins recharging. During the recharge phase, pop all your DPS cd's and such and nuke him to hell. His recharge phase lasts 20 secs. Like I said, this requires RNG as you never know what he'll cast in P1. If you wipe, he changes P1 casting a bit. Some people have noticed that you can ignore interrupting his first cast, then interrupt everything after that and it'll help you earn this ach easier.

Grim Batol
Achs: "Umbrage For Umbriss", "Don't Need To Break Eggs To Make An Omelet"

1: Umbrage For Umbriss
Boss Needed: General Umbriss
Description: Kill Umbriss while he is buffed by Modgud's Malady
Strat: When he summons troggs, CC the Malignant Trogg. While that trogg is still alive, all add packs he summons will not have any Malignant Troggs. When Umbriss's hp drops to 10-20% (up to you), drog him to the Malignant Trogg, then kill the trogg. Nuke boss, enjoy ach.

2: Don't Need To Break Eggs To Make An Omelet
Boss Needed: Erudax
Description: Kill Erudax without letting adds begin channeling Corruption on an egg
Strat: Easier than it sounds. Just needs good snares/slows and good dps. Snare and nuke adds quickly everytime they spawn.

Deadmines
Achs: "Ready For Raiding", "Rat Pack", "Prototype Prodigy", "It's Frost Damage", "I'm On A Diet", "Vigorous VanCleef Vindicator"

1: Ready For Raiding
Boss Needed: Glubtok
Description: Kill Glubtok without being hit by Firewall
Strat: STAY. OUT. OF. THE. FIRE. It spins like a pinwheel around him.

2: Rat Pack
Boss Needed: Helix Gearbreaker
Description: Kill 12 Mine Rats while fighting Helix.
Strat: When the Lumbering Oaf slams someone into the logs, it spawns Mine Rats. Kill them. This ach is cumulative...you can get it in multiple runs.

3: Prototype Prodigy
Boss Needed: Foe Reaper 5000
Description: Kill Foe Reaper without the Prototype Reaper's hp dropping below 90%
Strat: This ach is easy but it leaves out a few details. First off, if the reaper drops below 90% on the trash, you fail the ach. Second, you only get ONE SHOT at this ach. The Prototype Reaper is immune to damage from the adds so its easy keeping it above 90%.

4: It's Frost Damage
Boss Needed: Admiral Ripsnarl
Description: Let 3 Vapors cast Coalesce.
Strat: Coalesce is cast shortly after a Vapor becomes a Condensed Vapor. Coalesce is a giant explosion that will 1 shot you. To do this ach, hide behind the cabin when a Vapor begins casting Coalesce. Do this for 3 Vapors. Ripsnarl does not need to die.

5: I'm on a Diet
Boss Needed: "Captain" Cookie
Description: Don't get more than 1 stack of Nauseated during the fight.
Strat: 2 ways to do this. You can eat 1 good-1 bad-1 good-1 bad-1 good, or you can avoid eating bad stuff altogether. Remember that the good food will nauseate you if you eat too much.

6: Vigorous VanCleef Vindicator
Boss Needed: Vanessa VanCleef
Description: Pull Vanessa within 5 mins of starting the nightmare gauntlet.
Strat: Difficult, but there are a few tricks to help shave a few seconds. After clicking the valves to avoid being burned alive, you should be at the top of the entrance ramp in Foe Reaper's room. Jump over the rail and run to the exit door to save 15 secs. Be careful of fires spawning. Kill Glubtok FAST. 2nd Nightmare: Kill Helix FASTER. 3rd nightmare, dodge the lightning, kill Foe Reaper FAST. 4th Nightmare, IGNORE THE WEREWOLVES! Let the NPC die. You will wipe. Run back, port to the ship, and pull Vanessa (don't waste time healing or mana'ing up...she does not need to die). You could also bring a shammy (Reincarnation) or Lock (SS) to save more time.

Shadowfang Keep
Achs: "Pardon Denied", "To The Ground", "Bullet Time"

1: Pardon Denied
Boss Needed: Baron Ashbury
Description: Don't let him heal with Stay of Execution
Strat: Requires quick interrupts and good heals. YOU DO NOT NEED TO TOP OFF PEOPLE! He always leaves you with 1 HP with Asphyxiate...so just heal enough to survive till the next Asphyxiate.

2: To The Ground
Boss Needed: Commander Springvale
Description: Kill Springvale without letting his adds cast Unholy Empowerment
Strat: Best way to do this is to CC the adds and nuke Springvale. If CC is unavailable, just interrupt everything the adds do and kill them.

3: Bullet Time
Boss Needed: Lord Godfrey
Description: Cause Godfrey to kill 12 Bloodthirsty Ghouls with Pistol Barrage, then kill him.
Strat: Easy. When he casts Pistol Barrage, drag Ghouls in front of him. Hell...you may get this accidentally during a run.

Few thats all of em.....GL everybody!

Kalli's additional tips:

Crushing Bones and Cracking Skulls: Ice trap is good for this. Just drop it under the boss before a chains phase.
Too Hot to Handle: There's no need to spawn the adds at all by dropping the stacks. The boss takes increased damage with the debuff on him, so just nuke him hard. This achie is all on the tank's kiting and the dps being high.
Kill It With Fire: Root/snare the adds in the fires to keep the debuff up easily. Ice traps are also good here.
Headed South: The range on this buff is really short, so as a hunter, be sure to move in for it.
I Hate That Song: Bring a pet with an interrupt (like a nether ray) and leave it on the boss while you do your thing. The moment the shield is down, have your pet interrupt the boss. Easy.
Straw That Broke the Camel's Back: BM hunters can still BW even without their pet, so you're not a liability on this fight while getting the achie. You also get a camel that is BWed. It's pretty epic.
Don't Need To Break Eggs To Make An Omelet: Hunters can ice trap near the entrance to slow both adds at once. This technique combined with high dps makes this achievement trivial.
Ready for Raiding: Just follow the wall, keeping one of the spokes on your left side. Strafe with aspect of the fox up. Profit.
To the Ground: Kiting Springvale down the hall helps, since the adds will then both be coming in through the same door and will thusly be easier to CC/kill.
