It looks like I've been immensely fortunate tonight. I just ran across a second rare spawn tameable!

I was flying above Vashj'ir to see if there was anything interesting when I noticed everyone's favourite developer, Ghostcrawler, appear as a blip on my minimap. I plunged in, and swam down to the bottom only to find he'd vanished. A minute later he reappeared and it turns out he's a rare spawn green spiny crab with blue biolucent markings: At first I thought this was rather boring, since the Pyreshell Scuttlers already have this skin. Then he vanished before my eyes. When he reappeared I finally realized, he's a spirit beast, not a crab: I tamed with with a freezing trap, so I'm not sure how hard he would have been without it or if he has any special abilities as an NPC. I didn't get a shot of the tame, but here he is immediately after. Because he has spirit walk, which keeps him transparent, on top of the fact that he's a sombre green, there's actually not much to see:

UPDATE: the proper skin for him has gone in since and he looks great now. See later posts for pictures.

I didn't get a screenshot of the location, but it's easy enough to describe. He's in the far south-west corner of the Abandoned Reef, which is in the far south-west of Vashj'ir.

He could just have a placeholder skin for now -- I bet his live incarnation will look a lot more spirit-beastly.

I'm looking forward to catching this cool crab, and now my hopes are up for more Cataclysm spirit beasts!

A jackal would look fantastic, but there aren't any showing up in the database yet. If they add a rare to Uldum, my money is currently on a lion that looks like the Alliance mount. All the friendly lions there now have that skin and I think they'd almost have to introduce a tameable one.

Good find Wain - I was wondering what the next SB would be. Just hope it gets a more "spirity" look before cata...

Yeah I'm hoping that this is only a placeholder. But neat find nonetheless! (The turtle is still better, woot!).

I'm pretty confident that it's a placeholder - I don't think they would ever make an exotic pet (let alone a Spirit Beast!) identical to a common, normal pet.

*nods* I'm fairly confident they'll give him some sort of unique model. There's still plenty of time.

Either that or it's just a joke pet placed in this current build.
But anyway, epic find! I laughed a lot there. XD How many upset hunters are gonna pick up this crab and send it up against deathwing solo when Blizzard nerfs us?

I kind of doubt this will end up as an actual pet on live, given that Ghostcrawler is lead system designer, probably just a Beta Easter Egg. Here's to hoping though xD. I have also heard that Ghostcrawler is actually Dr. Ghostcrawler; he has a PhD in Marine Biology! No wonder he is a crab

I wonder if (assuming it's not a fleeting joke and, as I rather hope, is the real thing) they'll spice it up with some flaming effects like the guys in Blasted Lands.

he's the new loque ^^ they always show one SB prior to the expansion...to make all the hunters drooling and getting em to buy the game as fast as they can....and it's working...IT'S WORKING!!!!
