Pet Idea: Giant Crickets

Unread post by Crotalus Horridus »

If you've seen my Pet Idea: Fowl thread, then you probably thought it was silly. Oh, well I've only just begun with the silly stuff, and that would be Crickets. Crickets are nothing to laugh at, the spurs on there legs can rip open an animal there size (Like a Spider) and there jaws when large enough can feel like needles jammed into your fingers.

Don't believe me? Look at dis: Image
Any questions? None? Good.
... There are probably many people who are STILL not convinced. Well, I'll show you a little video of this cricket in predatory mode: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RF868pCjrI
Just mute the video, the music is a little... strange. Hopefully that video will convince you.

Now let's talk about abilities, shall we? This family will obviously be non-exotic.

Image
Cricket's Song
- Channeled for 10 seconds
- 1 Minute Cooldown
Your Cricket jumps to a random spot and starts playing the infamous song of the Cricket. While singing, any enemy players/attackable NPCs will be put to sleep.

Or of course...

Image
Olympic Leap
- Instant
- 30 Second Cooldown
Your Cricket leaps to a target that can be up to 20 yards away. When it lands on the target, said target is knocked down.

And of course, with a pet this silly, you need a bonus ability!

Image
Singing Swarm
- Channeled for 20 seconds
- 5 Second Cooldown
Your Cricket starts to chirp, making other crickets swarm near it. Soon, all of the Crickets begin the sing, irritating other players.

Pretty neat ideas, eh? If you have any others, you can tell me about em'.

Ok, I have to ask what species that is; I had no idea crickets could be that large! We have kept crickets both as pets and as food for other pets.

Your singing insect ability reminded me of cicadas, many of which are quite striking:

I'm going to break my vow of not coming here for a month (had to reply to a few pms) but that is NOT a cricket it's a Weta. They are related to crickets and grasshoppers but are not them just in the same family. I should know I see Wetas all the bloody time >.> One of our cats loves them.

And now off I go and I wont be back for some time ;) but you can PM me if you'd like.

Oh, I should have thought of weta; I remember you telling us about them before. Miss you, cowmu

Wetas are awesome. And come in a huge range of sizes (for different species). And give their name to the company that made Lord of the Rings (as well as special effects for many other movies) :)

I simply used the Weta as an example of the Giant Hopping Insects, however they could make quite a good edition to the family. Here is an actual Cricket, a Giant Bush Cricket to be exact:

As you can tell by my avatar and signature, there are some pretty nifty models for crickets already. There are 4 different skins, and their attack animation is a ninja-like kick!

That is, in fact, why I made this thread, simply because I love the Cricket model and the skins it comes with.
