Pet Idea: Sharks and Stingrays

Unread post by Crotalus Horridus »

You might be thinking, after looking at the title, that I ''may'' make these abilities all vicious for the sharks and maybe a Steve Irwin (Crocodile Hunter) joke for the Stingrays.

Nope. I'm going to make them all adorable and cute, but to an extent to where they aren't incredibly ridiculous. One has to remember that not all Sharks and Stingrays will give you diabetes when instantly seen by even the most pure of human eyes, oh no no, some Sharks and Stingrays will give you the darkest of nightmares imaginable. Let's start with the abilities, shall we?
But first, let me explain how this is going to work for Sharks. Sharks will have a permanent ''Current'' buff, which has a current of magically oxygenated water flowing past their gills and around their body in a large sphere. The water, so it doesn't tire the animal out, flows slowly enough so that the animal can stand motionless and still breathe. Stingrays will simply have a water sphere of motionless water, as they don't have to constantly move to take in oxygen. The spheres disappear when the pet is taken into water but reappear when taken out.

Main Abilities.

Image
Just a Nip!
- Instant
- 10 second cooldown
Your Shark or Stingray nips the target, increasing all damage taken by 4% for 30 seconds.

Or. . .

Image
Swift Swim
- Instant
- 2 minute cooldown
Your Shark or Stingray drenches everyone in the magical water that surrounds it, refreshing them and increasing their haste by 5% and run speed by 20% for 10 seconds.

Or. . .

Image
Dark Waters
- Instant
- 2 minute cooldown
Your Shark or Stingray swims into the darkness, and then, after 3 seconds, it hits or stings the target, stunning the target for 5 seconds.

Or. . .

Image
Spawn of Epicus Maximus
- Instant
- 10 minute cooldown
Your Shark or Stingray becomes filled with the epic quality that was once contained in the most epic Shark of all time. . .EPICUS MAXIMUS! Once embodied with it's new epic powers, any attackable target within 25 yards of your pet will run away in terror for 10 seconds.

Fun Abilities

Image
Snout-touching Fetish
- Instant
- 1 second cooldown
You rub your Shark or Stingray's snout, making it like you a little more than usual.

Or. . .

Image
Frickin' Laser Beams!
- Instant
- 1 second cooldown
Your Shark or Stingray shoots laser beams around, causing everything to run away in terror for 5 seconds. Note: Does not work on endangered species, as it would take months to clear up the red tape.

And that is my gigantic wall of ideas!

*Because I'm highly paranoid about the smallest things I read about, I'm placing this down here because I read somewhere on the internet (Yeah I know, it's the internet) that Blizzard usually doesn't use fan ideas posted on forums is because the people who made said ideas might take copyright actions against them. So, feel free to use this, Blizzard.*

You know what would be nice for a fish pet? Water breathing buff, while it gets from us an air bubble in exchange.

To be honest, this wouldn't be as useful as any of the abilities Crotalus Horridus made.
How often are you running out of air underwater (without a Kalu'ak fishing pole or waterbreathing potion?)
How often are you underwater anyway, when you're not questing?

There's, like, 1 Angler daily that requires you to go underwater. That's about it.

Hey, I'm completely paranoidal and any time by breathing bar starts to go down, I can't help but think about going back up because I'm afraid of drowning. :P

But seriously, it would be just a neat buff that's about as situational as water walking. As in, most of the time you have no reason to use it, but sometimes it would be very nice.

The thing about water breathing is that with the pet out, I could no longer prank my friends by having them get on my Grand Ice Mammoth and then me run to Thousand Needles and drown them because they never quested there.

All jokes aside, the buff itself would really only be useful in situations like that, where you have to go through a giant zone filled with water. But even then, if you've done enough quests, you still get a buff that allows you to breathe underwater for the rest of the time you're in said zone. There's also plenty of items that let you breathe underwater for long periods of time such as the Elixir of Greater Water Breathing and the Hydrocane, both quite easy to obtain with a little effort.

I would love a shark or stingray pet and most skills seem just fine and matching the pet. Other fishes could be included in this group aswell.
Epicus would be OP. 10 sec of not controlling your char in bgs(isent priest fear 5-7 sec?)....but it IS Epicus Maximus.

Frickin' Laser Beams! Would be a skill only working on critters and/or minipets as i could see trolling hunters using it on their allies in groups while doing bg or dungeons, Or just to annoy people in the AH ect.

While this feature of the Grimtotem Spirit Guide wasn't exactly intended... - it will still be possible in future for everyone who wishes to tame this NPC to do so

It always bothered me we couldn't tame aquatic pets.

If we have enough magical powers to infuse arrows with arcane energy, we have enough to sustain a little water bubble for a pet. Even if we didn't, why can't the pet do it? XD

Meh. I like the idea, but the moves, as others have said, seem a bit... overpowered.

Considering the cooldown on Spawn of Epicus Maximus, which is 5 minutes, the ability is relatively under control in the over-powered department. This goes for the other abilities, which for me don't seem all too powerful.

However, seeing as it appears you have some concerns with them, I'll see what I can do.
