If you know the IDs of the models they use you can search by that feature. I happen to know a bunch of them from datamining the tables.
I haven't done this recently, so there may be new ones that don't appear below:

Old hippogryph uses model 90 (also 209 but I can't see any NPCs listed that use the latter):

Fel hippogryph (non mount) uses 4179:

New hippogryph uses 8262:

Arcane hippogryph is 8263:

Old hippogryph mount model uses 2639 and 2974 (also 2746 but I can't see any NPCs that use it):

Old gryphon uses two models:

Spectral gryphon (2 models):

:O wow thanks, those are helpful! The only question now is how to determine the model number? Is there a way in wowhead to get that info or does it require some tool like the model viewer?

If there's a way of getting it from Wowhead I'm not aware of it, unfortunately. It's a datamining thing.

Essentially I have to:
(i) know the file ID number for the model, like creature/gryphon/gryphon.m2 (the model file for the old gryphon) has the file ID 124290. I have most of these from an older version of the database that had a file that listed those IDs. These days (and latest models) you'd have to rely on a program to do it, or make guesses. Maybe someone has a list but I'm not aware of it.
(ii) using Ladik Zezula's CascView program I extract DFilesClient/CreatureModelData.db2
(ii) I then use a converter to convert that to a readable spreadsheet. I was using Arctium Tools but I can't see an updated version of that right now.
(iii) the numbers in the first column are the model IDs, the numbers in the 26th column are the file IDs for the models. I just look up all model IDs that have the file ID of the NPC model I'm interested in.

So... what we can take from the Q&A about Feathermane taming:

- if you're all hyped up to rush out, max your artifact and tame them a week after 7.2 hits, sorry, it's not going to happen

- The tome for taming Feathermanes can only be purchased after unlocking your class mount
- It's now been revealed that the class mount can only be unlocked after a class campaign that will take 11 weeks minimum to unlock completely*, plus getting Exalted with Armies of Legionfall.
- Plus, as mentioned previously, unlocking your BM traits which will require an awful lot of new AP.
- 7.2 hits this coming reset, in about 4 days
- so if you work hard, you may be able to tame them by mid-June, or early July. I'm so looking forward to it, but I'm afraid this is a bit beyond my worst-case estimate for time required. Ah well, it'll keep us busy!

* if you skip a week then you can do class quest parts in consecutive days. So after it's all unlocked in 3 months' time you could theoretically do the entire chain in 11 days.

Ouch, that's harsh. I understand making them a little harder since they're the types of beasts that had always been off-limits. But still...yikes.

What I don't understand is why the owlcats are thrown into this family. They aren't as exotic, IMO, and should have just been in the cat family. Throw us a bone!

(Disclaimer: Yes, I realize that the owlcats are cats with feathers, which makes them a "hybrid beast". I just don't want to have to spend twelve years to get the ability to tame one! *pouty face*)

...Eesh and I complained about maxing out the artifact. Honestly, all of it seems a bit... unnecessary. I don't even have my own BM artifact maxed out right now. This will probably take me quite a bit longer. .-.

NEW SIGNATURE PENDING... SOON.

Mine's maxed, just not maxed-maxed with tons dumped into the repeatable trait. I've been trying to max all three of 'em... Thas'dorah still has three points to go.

someday I'll find someplace to host a sig that isn't stupid money-grubbing photobucket

It's not that bad, honestly... I mean we've waited this long for hippogryphs, what's three more months? Just have to be patient. In the meantime, just focus on artifact knowledge and maxing out the BM artifact if you haven't already. There's plenty of other content to busy ourselves with until then, and all future hunters don't have to deal with this time gate. It's kind of like the quests leading up to Nighthold.

Personally I'm just excited about working on flying, the paragon mounts (not to mention, you'll get a ton of AP going after these), the new pvp brawls, the new dungeon... Yeah on one hand I wish I could fly out there ASAP and grab a hippogryph (this also makes hunting for the missing corrupted & spectral a pain in the ass), but it is what it is. And on the other hand, I am the kind of person that LIKES some kind of effort involved. It doesn't need to be an over-the-top grind like Prestige, but taking the time to earn something makes it way more exciting once you achieve it.

Not that my perma-pessimism is happy with this, but there is a silver lining to this cloud: eleven weeks of content being live will give us eleven more weeks to figure out whether the blue/purple hippogryphs are REALLY horde-exclusive, or if we just haven't found what we need yet.

Of course, eleven weeks out is after the character services sale ends, so... :\ Dang it Xella, you were doing so good at the semi-optimism thing! *shakes fist at self*

I'm sure the 11 weeks won't seem so bad in the end, with lots of other new content to try. Plus it IS going to be a bit of work to get enough AP to unlock all traits, so it may take that long regardless. In fact the 11-week gating may be a kind of blessing as people won't feel the same need to rush out and farm AP to the point of burning out.

Well that's some slightly heart breaking news. Frick man. For the casual player I just don't see this being even remotely doable within 6 months :(
For me probably longer.
Like Lupen said I love that it requires some effort but sheesh. *shakes head*

I just don't see it happening for me anytime in in the next 6+ months. I just cannot dedicate that much time to this game. Can barely play once a week as it is.

Yikes, yeah, seeing as I already need to max out the Surv artifact to get the color of mount I want, I think I'm gunna need to give these pets a pass for the foreseeable future. I'm not really sure I'm a total fan of the huge grind this kind of thing is encouraging, but eh, whatcha gunna do? It's not exactly a new theme in WoW

Though seeing as we likely aren't to see a grand Gryphon model, I'm not too upset! That was the one I really wanted.

I just had a thought, and maybe it's already been addressed elsewhere, but: will these guys have a family ability, or are they limited to the standard pet abilities like Growl/Claw/spec-specific/etc.?

With the new patch, I wanted to see when we could tame these beauties and I'm a little disappointed we have to wait. But I'm also having a deja vu moment (for lack of a better description). Back during Blizzcon 2016, a player got to ask the devs about "taming unicorns". And the dev who answered said there weren't any unicorns in Legion. There were horses with horns. And after a laugh, he said we would be able to tame them. At least that's where the deja vu moment comes in. Anyone else remember that?

He said we might be able to at some point. Not that we would be in 7.2 or anytime soon.
