I went to investigate the shadowform Chimaeras someone mentioned, so here are my discoveries. I have no idea if these can be tamed to keep the shadowform, I'm afraid there's so many variables and it's late here so I'll leave that to some of you adventurous folk. I thought the least I could do is compile the information I found though, hopefully it helps.

In Northern Azshara is an area with Satyrs wandering around.


The Legashi Hellcaller mobs seem to go around and randomly put a curse on the nearby wildlife.


They will do this to Stags, Hippogryphs, and Chimaeras.


It's a channeled cast, which leaves the beast with a shadowform effect (Hellcaller's Corruption) for a limited duration. This does not kill the beast. When the duration is up the shadowform simply goes away and the beast reverts to normal.


I had to wander around for a good 20 minutes until I found a Chimaera with it. This whole thing highly dependable on the behaviour of the Satyrs, which makes it annoying and will most likely be very frustrating to attempt to tame. The total time if you find a mob that is freshly cursed is about 55 seconds. That's roughly a minute window that you have to try to kill the beast and tame it at the same time. Plus these are very low level mobs, so for a high level character I imagine this will be a headache. They only have about 400 health.

Something that aspiring testers might want to try is killing some of the mobs in the area in order to hopefully increase the chance of the satyrs casting on a chimaera.

im trying to tame one now. But like Veph said, its hard to find a chimera with a curse long enough to even try. takes me about 20 mins to find one, then they always end up having like 4 seconds remaining.

Tamed one that had just been turned into shadow. It loses the effect once tamed.

Edit: Even if timed a half second before the buff drops it still loses the effect. The buff is also an instant drop, meaning that once it hits 0 it's back to normal without any delays at all.

After using the kill/tame + revive trick on 5 cursed chimeras only to relog with a uncursed chimera, Im going to go ahead and guess that it's not gonna stick

Its a nice find though none the less, and who knows. maybe im just doing something wrong

Notifed earlier that if you tame a mining monkey it continues it's mining animation till dismissed and summoned again. I tamed a Chimera and did not dissmiss it, which caused these demons to still try and turn it shadow. However, the buff the demon hit my pet with did not activate.

Ah well, it was worth a shot. ^^

No, that wouldn't work. Acherontia said that any mob's whose appearance is on a timer (like these are), will still have the timer after taming. So you might be able to have a shadow chimaera...for a minute. x)
