Good News...or Bad News for "Buff" Pets
Hi. I'm a longtime lurker who happens to be obsessed with obtaining the unobtainable. So I thought this was important enough for me to make an account and post.
So when I read the hotfix patch notes about pets with buff looks unobtainable I was unconvinced. (It is very hard to convince me about anything.)
As soon as I logged in on Tuesday (maintenence ended early) I went out abandoned my sparkly pink tallstrider, and tamed a new one using the pet abandon method. T_T first try I got it. So nothing had changed YET on my realm. Seeing I didn't have to download a patch before playing, I assumed it had not been applied to my realm yet. So I played for a while, and logged around lunchtime.
When I get back to start playing again, as expected, I was forced to download the hotfix patch. It was applied around 1:00pm on my realm. Sure enough, I went out, abandoned my sparkly tallstrider, tried to tame one via pet abandon....nothing. (i still wasn't convinced) Only after attempting the pet abandon method 100 times on 3 of the permanent buff pets did I finally accept it was fixed.
NOW COMES THE IMPORTANT PART:
So I didn't try anything until today, which is Thursday, December 16, 5:10pm. and me being OVERLY STUBBORN still was not convinced blizz fixed something this deep in the programming. So I go out to mulgore, and attempt to tame the flaming boars. Tried the pet abandon method MANY times. It did not work. Still not giving up, I tried the good ol' fashion way. Pet dies the EXACT same time tame beast finishes. First 8 tries did not work, but to my utter suprise the 9th try worked! Pet died exactly as tame beast ended. pet dissapeared. logged out. pet on character screen. logged back in. FLAMING BOAR. Filled with addrenaline I went out, and experimented on the many buff pets. After MANY, MANY tries, I landed both oil-covered beasts, the mist-glowing carrion bird, and the lone hunter....ALL WITH THEIR BUFFS......
SO AS OF RIGHT NOW BLIZZ HAS ONLY FIXED THE PETABANDON METHOD. THESE PETS CAN ALL STILL BE OBTAINED VIA SERPENT STINGING (or pigs dieing from fire) AT THE RIGHT MOMENT AND TAMING SO THE BEAST DIES EXACTLY WHEN TAME BEAST ENDS. I HAVE CONFIRMED THIS METHOD WORKS, WITH THE PETABANDON HOTFIX APPLIED ON MY REALM.
*WARNING* TAME AT YOUR OWN RISK. Blizz knew about the petabandon method before fixing it. They overlooked this way, but it is clear they don't want us taming these. I may get banned, but it was worth confirming that these boogers are VERY HARD TO TAME NOW....but still tameable nonetheless.
Sorry for wall of post.

I think they wanted to keep people from taming pets with actual damaging buffs on. Just visual effects, they weren't bothered by. And doing the 'kill before you tame' is going to clear the buff of any critter that has a harmful buff on.
So I'm *hoping* that this is safe.

I really dont think we should post methods on how to do these things anymore. Blizzard said no and that means no more.

Agreed. Blizzard's made it clear that we shouldn't be taming these. If you want to keep your account safe, please don't go out and try to tame these, even if all they did was fix the pet abandon macro.Taluwen wrote:I really dont think we should post methods on how to do these things anymore. And btw OP, we have a dev lurker here in these forums, once this method makes its way to them, they'll probably put a stop to it, if they haven't already been working on a method to stop it.

Darn, I really what the oil covered wolf. But I don't want to risk my hard work on my account by trying this

Seriously. Is it going to take an actual ban to get everyone to stop this?Taluwen wrote:I really dont think we should post methods on how to do these things anymore. Blizzard said no and that means no more.

Macha, It may have to come to that. I'm surprised the mods didnt lock those threads up yet.
I agree, Tyger. I thought about that Dev and now that this is here, blizzard knows about it.

I think this one, and the others should be locked. The "buff" pets are pretty and neat, but not worth potentially compromising anyone's account.

Re: Good News...or Bad News for "Buff" Pets
I'll go ahead and lock this, though truthfully I don't see what effect that will have. The risks have been outlined on each of these types of threads now, and it's clear what Blizzard's stance is on these tames. There will inevitably be those who do not balk at that sort of thing, and they will try these regardless of warning. The warning's out there, everyone's free to do what they wish, and I don't think anyone's advocating one way or another, simply putting different scenarios into play. Those of you who do not feel comfortable employing such taming means do not have to do so, nor will you attempt it. Those of you who are not put off by Blizzard's action and seek to further test this sort of strategy will do so without worry over possible penalties. There's nothing anyone can do to stop either action, people will do as they wish. As I mentioned, the warnings have already been outlined, so those who go on are doing so at their own discretion. As long as that's made clear, the results of individual's actions are up to them alone.
