Haha, I hope they keep it too. :D That's hilarious and epic. I also hope they put in NPC who mentions needing a bigger boat...

I always kill that shark for fun, and because it tries to eat me when I fall in.

This guy. :D

I used to love kiting him around the sewers and sometimes up to the surface using scare beast and freeze traps. Course, people would usually kill him by then. >_< It's fun having a pet shark!

To Veph, Jesswyn and others who have confessed phobias here, as illogical and somewhat weird as they can be.

I had a fear of volcanoes for years after seeing a documentary on Pompeii when I was a kid. It wasn't a particularly well-made documentary, and the special effects were cheesy as hell, but that cheesiness I think added to it. They showed lava raining down from the sky as little, red balls (they looked like meatballs, weirdly enough. Guess you know what movie I'll never be watching), that burned anyone they touched, showing the whole Roman city getting covered, people screaming ... even though I don't live anywhere near any volcanoes, active, dormant or extinct (Canada has no active volcanoes at all -- and we're the world's second-biggest country), I was terrified of the earth openning up with no warning, lava raining down.

The way I got over it was by studying volcanoes and other Earth science topics in my spare time -- getting to know about plate tectonics, about why there are no volcanoes in southern Ontario and there likely won't ever be any (at least not for millions of years). Maybe studying real life sharks or other scary topics can help others get over their phobias too.

Just a suggestion. I hope that might help.

Hehe, that's the thing for me though Cerah. I love sharks, I'm fascinated by them. I was obsessed with watching all the documentaries I could when I was younger. I know so much about them. Shark Week is something I never miss.

It's only in the water. I can't swim in the ocean, or even lakes and sometimes pools. Obviously I know there aren't sharks in lakes and pools, but it's a deep-rooted fear. I suppose the more encompassing phobia is deep water itself and what may lurk beneath it, but in their natural habitat sharks are a terrifying predator that I would be helpless against. It sends me into a panic thinking of going swimming and having one somewhere under the water, and in games diving down into underwater zones and encountering them still freaks me out. I clearly realize they're not just bloodthirsty monsters that attack without precedent, but that common sense is sort of thrown out the window for a phobia I guess. x)

I'm not so bad off that I can't look at pictures or videos of them, it's quite the opposite. It's only in direct contact or somewhat direct contact (aka video games) that the phobia rears its head. If that made sense. xD

Woo Ontario! I'm just outside of Barrie.

Also, on the subject of geology, there's a Nature of Things special on CBC that's been going on for the past few weeks called Geologic Journey II. I'm mentioning it because my parents are friends with Nick Eyles, the geologist who's featured in the show. It's been a pretty cool watch and it's kind of neat to be able to actually talk to the guy in the show about the stuff that you're seeing on the screen. As long as you're over your fear, this might be an interesting show for you to have a look at, Cerah. http://www.cbc.ca/documentaries/natureo ... cjourney2/

On a documentary on National geographic a shark saved a mans life...how? by trying to eat it

two sharks..one charges at head and would have bitten the surprised swimmer..but the second shark tackled the swimmer like they always do but managed to get to the beach.. for the second shark :P

though another time well they didn't show it they made the screen go fuzzy whe it happened but..on shark bit an leg of of an reasercher...all you could see was some dark blood and some yelling from the fellow people. you couldn't barely hear the woman herself though...but i guess that's an better thing...i can stand horrors but i can't stand the news since that's really happening/happened... either way and more shark documentaries on NG... a place in an coral rif (knife sharp coral! easy small blood wounds!! and a heavy stream..luckily no-one got hurt and they discovered a place where all the baby-sharks around that area were born...like 200 baby sharks in an beautiful coral rif...that's one beautiful sight i'll never forget.. sharks have two sides... one beautiful mysterious side (great white sharks are overfeared by the way..;they only rarely attack humans people seem to forget that) and ofcourse the killer inside em when they are starving which luckily rarely happens when people are nearby. but i'm derailing here i think

nice screenies veph   for you :P

I'm in St. Catharines, and Brock, my university, has a really good Earth Sciences department (from what I heard anyway, I took Astronomy for my science credit), and the Niagara Escarpment, a really prominent geological feature, goes right through the university grounds. If you're interested in that sort of thing, you should give it a visit :)

I've been following that documentary, actually. I love the Nature of Things! Isn't this week's edition on the Ring of Fire too?

It's really cool that you know an actual geologist! You're really lucky!
