Hehe, yeah, I figured. ^^ I actually know rather little of before Zeus transformed her, but eh, Internet. ^^

As I recall, there wasn't a huge amount of information out there on her before the transformation, since that was the "more interesting" part. She was a daughter of Poseidon, who's a traditional antagonist in Greek mythology anyway. That likely gives Athena as a protagonist, which is also traditional.

On the other hand....

The really cool thing about rival sides being represented is that the lines of who the antagonists and protagonists are are blurred, which is NOT traditional, but far more interesting. Then you get two opposing sides of mortals and gods in addition to the loose cannon "enemies of all." Given, one side is likely to be Greek and the other possibly not, but depending on who is ticked off at the Greeks and why, it could easily fit that a non-Greek army would get Greek deity backing.
