Naming an Rp toon question

So I know that you are supposed to give your RP toons a name that is of their race, but is it ok to have their name in game be that of a nickname (the nickname I am thinking of is a derivative of his actual name, but it would be "out of place" without knowing his story)?

I've got a few friends who have done that. I personally don't have a problem with it.

That's used quite often. It can be hard on highly populated servers to get the name you want, so often you're forced to use a nickname as your toon's name - and if you're starting RP with a character with a very non-RP name, you can just say that's a nickname.
