Thok Tames!
Show off your Thok tames! Got mine on Jessibelle.
Don't know how to tame him? This handy dandy video will be your guide! Granted, this is for 110. 110 will make soloing this a lot easier. Since we're only 100, I recommend taking a friend, preferably a healer. The better geared you are(and your friends), the easier this will be. Jessi wasn't well geared, admittedly, but I had my one of my hubbies on their raid geared rogue and my girlfriend on her shaman. So extra DPS and a heals.
For those who can't see the video:
1. Make sure you have a slot open for taming.
2. Go to the second floor of the Mogu'shan Palace
3. Talk to Lorewalker Han and ask him to take you to the Underhold
4. Defeat Malk and the Spoils of Pandaria. Malk is, in my experience, the toughest of the two. Even with my setup, Malk was a bit rough, but we got through without him killing us. Spoils was easy. Healer will likely have to jump from side to side to keep both healed but primarily stay with the one less geared.
5. Kill the trash in Thok's room
6. Dismiss your pet and profit!

Re: Thok Tames!
I really need to tame that guy now, Is it particularly difficult to tame him?
Re: Thok Tames!
I sorely wanted to tame him last night, but I couldn't get any of the folks I know who were online to help me get past Galakras. I'd try LFR, but kind of suspect that an LFR group wouldn't be keen on letting a hunter tame a boss.

Re: Thok Tames!
Boven, there's a Pandaren on the second floor of the palace that'll queue you and whoever you have with you for the dungeon. It would just be you and your friends. ^^ You'd only have to fight Malk and the Spoils. Malk is a pain in the hiney, but Spoils is easy as pie.Boven wrote:I sorely wanted to tame him last night, but I couldn't get any of the folks I know who were online to help me get past Galakras. I updated this thread to give instructions for those who need a little assist. If you're on US servers, I can offer you a hand. :3
Re: Thok Tames!
Malk gave me a really hard time...I died a bunch. But the up side is I gained stacks of determination! So I was finally able to overpower the fight Spoils was pretty easy, even as a BM with all our troubles. The result is a really awesome dino! Still thinking of a name

Re: Thok Tames!
I decided to give it a try but I got kicked right before Malk and didn't bother going back in
Re: Thok Tames!
Got mine on patch day, ran through malk and spoils at least 10 times with a rather nice group of hunters on the PTR.
Named mine Ravana. Cookie if you get the reference

Re: Thok Tames!
Stacks of Determination definitely help for Malkorok if you're up to an LFR solo challenge. Up until the Blood Rage, he's an easy burn as long as you watch your aggro, heal up your pet every so often, and play the Disengage game whenever he knocks you into the air. Once he raged, though, all aggro fled from my pet like Hogwarts' spiders from the basilisk, and it was pretty much a race to keep from dying messily -- if BM, whip out your handy spirit beast and use its heal, plus Exhilaration, potions, and any other heals you can find. Posthaste and your Aspects also help, but he's fast and he hits hard. Plus, unless someone knows a trick I didn't, Misdirection is essentially useless in the rage phase. He will chase, you will go squish, you will get Determination, and you will try again. Eight was my magic number, but if you've actually practiced your spec (unlike me) or have a higher gear level than my 692, you could probably do heaps better than me. I'll post a photo once I get home.
Re: Thok Tames!
I was having trouble with Malkorok. As MM, I could barely get him into the low 70s. Best I did as BM was just below 40%. I finally got a guildie to help and blew him up. That also made Spoils go quickly.
So as of last night:
And here he is in Tron badguy mode..er.. during BW:
Now to think of a good name for him.
EDIT: For the record, taming Thok counts as a kill for anyone else in there with you. The enh shammy friend who was with me couldn't loot Thok, of course, but he did get a bonus roll popup.

Re: Thok Tames!
Congrats on the tames.
I wanted this dino on my alliance hunter but couldn't get Malk down so I gave up.

First is a selfie taken while playing in the snow and second is in my garrison we are both asleep after long day in the snow.
Re: Thok Tames!
After dying five times trying to solo Malk in LFR mode to no avail, I tried using Feign Death to drop his aggro during his blood rage phase, and surprisingly it worked without resetting the instance. I think it might be because Play Dead is now a separate thing, but I Feigned Death at the start of his blood rage and just waited it out as my pet took all the damage. I did it at the edge of the stage since I think he cleaves while raging. Combine that with Disengage to avoid fall damage earlier in the fight and the entire encounter became trivial. Got my Thok too! So any of you hunters trying for a solo tame but getting stuck on Malk, give this a shot.

Re: Thok Tames!
Goodness! Sounded like a rough time, Xin! Glad you got your big dino buddy though.
Re: Thok Tames!
This is definitely the way to go. My Hunter has terrible gear, and I did the same thing, worked perfectly. Failed several times before though, trying to fight the boss as Survival, and my pet being unable to hold aggro at all. Switched to BM with a Spirit Beast, zero chance of dying, even with a 680 iLvl.Xinqin wrote:After dying five times trying to solo Malk in LFR mode to no avail, I tried using Feign Death to drop his aggro during his blood rage phase, and surprisingly it worked without resetting the instance.
