I saw Skitterflame up a few days ago, the last of all of the big spiders for me to notice because everyone else minus Karkin/Skarr were up at the same time(!) - he's hardly anything 'special', evidently, because he's tucked away in his own little puddle and he is, after all, just a red spider. But half asleep from exhaustion, fighting to tame the others didn't appeal to me, and Skitter seemed the easiest.
I haaated him when I tamed him. I don't really like spiders to begin with, but his colors were so overbearing in the Front, especially near the lava pool he sits in - bright saturated reds and oranges yanked straight from an MS Paint drawing, almost. He hurt to look at so early in the morning, so I hearthed back to Stormwind to put some ointment on my poor eyes. Turns out he's much prettier than you would expect - staying cooped up on the Front does not do any favors - and he's really a peachy orange color, completely lovely.
I think it was a combination of that and the fact that it seems he is so rarely adopted by anyone else except pet collectors to sit in the non-unique sections of their stables - pity, I suppose - that made me decide to let him stick around for a bit. He was going to be Arizona - a location that means a great deal to me - but it was reserved, so I opted for Tennessee instead and named him Memphis. With a name and a proper appreciation of his looks, I went back to questing and wandering and figured I'd forget about him.
Anthriss(Providence), Ban'thalos(Raver) and a currently nameless Karkin all came into my stables, as well as a little green broodling(Moody) but Memphis kind of stuck in my brain throughout the entire day. I do my best not to use rares in the zones they spawn in - I was fighting a losing battle.
Sure, he's just red. But he's my red spider. He's my little PTR buddy. My Memphis.
