Themed Pet Challenge: Overview

Hey folks! I've had an idea for the last week or so about "pet themes." I'm going to do a new random pet challenge--the single-pet one is currently up and running over here.

Basically, the idea is this: You tell me how many stable slots you have free to use for this, and I assign you a random "theme" set of pets to tame. There are a few different themes, and each might be assigned out more than once, but the individual pets will differ. Post a link to your char if you want something you think might match, or leave it out if you want something completely random! I might assign you a set of pets that feel Gothic, or a color theme, or a a theme of Reptiles etc, but the idea is to check out how your char meshes with them, to see how they "interact" thematically and, of course, to have some fun!

Some themed examples:

Rules:

* It will be hard to do too many of these at once. They will be even more time-consuming than single-pet assignments, so please, ONLY ONE CHAR per person at any one time. In other words, please don't list six alts and want an assignment for each

* I also have a set of themes in mind, so if I'm away for a day or two, try not to get impatient and start filling in themes for others. I'll let you guys know if it's time for others to take over the idea if I run out of time for this project!

* DO take screenshots and post reviews. A paragraph/screenshot per pet is awesome, although of course I can't require anything of you. But if I'm taking the time to give you a theme to try out, simply coming back and giving a sentence or two isn't worth it!

* If you have restrictions, post them in the form. Please do NOT say "could you reroll pet X" if it wasn't listed, and don't link to your entire Armory--I haven't the time to go through stables, sadly. If you've tamed the pet in the past, tame it again or post a review from memory.

How to Participate:

Post the following form for the character of your choosing.

Name & Level:
Exotics: Yes/No
Pet Slots: (how many slots you have free for this project--the average theme is 3-5 pets)
Restrictions:
Armory Link/Screenshot (Optional):
Additional Notes: (Please also list themes you've already done if this isn't your first time)

I will post back within a day or two with a list of pets for you to tame and an explanation or name of the theme. Again, some themes will be reused, but the pets will cycle.

Tame each pet. Take screenshots of the pets, use them how you see fit--I'll try and assign a tank, DPS and PvP pet to each theme so you can use each in their optimal situations and review them. Come back here & give us the screenshots and a post about your experiences with the pets!

Some ideas:

* How were the individual pets' models? Were they appealing to the eye? Did they fit with your char & with one another? Were the resolutions/poly count up to scratch?
* How were the pets' animations? Running, idle, attacking, swimming etc?
* How were the pets' sounds effects?
* How did you find the pets to play with, utility-wise? PvP, PvE, soloing, tanking, whatever you used them for--what did you find good & bad about each?
* How did the pets look with your char, and with one another as a themed set, overall?
* You could make a costume with gear to fit the theme, take screenshots of yourself in it with the pets!
* You could take them to thematically-fitting settings and take pics there too.
* Anything else you think of!

Yay! I love the random pet challenge, but one at a time makes me a little sad as I go through them quickly.

Roll Gypsi, my NE hunter. She's level 47 now, no exotics yet until I level her some more. I can clear out about 3 stable spots for this I bet.

You could also roll Kitsune, the BElf hunter. I just started her but I could get her up to level 20 quick enough I bet. Kitsune would have a full 20 available spots to use for a theme, so pick however many you want for her. :headbang:

I like projects, they give me stuff to do.

I wish I had a hunter available for this as it's an awesome idea. I may have to go work on a new hunter or something now. >_>

Just wanted to pop in and say how much I LOVE this idea. I wish I had the in-game time to join in on it, but sadly I don't at present. Still, I wish you the best of luck, and I look forward to reading these!

I limited it to 3; the Gothic set will probably be used quite a few times and has a few other pets in it, but there's your Gothic rolls

Hmm, I have a hunter with free pet slots, but he's at level 16 right now. Shall I wait until I have had time to level him further? The benefit is that he has a mostly empty stable. Oh, and he's a demon hunter, so there's an idea for themes (he's even got the blindfold; I didn't know that night elf males could look like demon hunters!).

I do have to warn you that this weekend will be a busy one, and I'm rarely able to play during the weekdays, so this won't be done for a week or two.

I have a rather nice theme set out that might match him, but it might also be the sort of thing you were going for already :lol:

If you want one now just shout, otherwise I'm happy to hold off for you.

Right then. I'm going to have to leave out the Fel Boar, due to level restriction, but I think we can make do as long as you don't mind some (serious) travel :lol:

Demonic Theme

Blue Plaguehound, Corrupted Red Raptor, Orange Ravager, and the Red Bat.

Because what better to hunt demons with than the beasts who know the taint, right? Or maybe some of the critters he's picked up along the way can be saved?

I'm not sure how you want to work it but your story made me think of this theme at once. If it is going to break your RP, though, shout & I'll reroll it.

It still just doesn't look the same without a Felboar... *ponders*

Edit--oh, and if you run into Bayne, feel free to substitute if he's more your style. I was hesitant to assign a rare to a lowbie who'll be in an enemy zone, though >.>

Heh, just show me what felboar you had in mind, and I'll see about taming a regular boar that looks just like it. Once I go to Outlands, the boar could get a fel taint and become a felboar. Thoughts?

Well, any of them, really. I'd say pick the one you preferred, or one that matches the Old-World boars, perhaps. Let's see, what boars are available at low levels?

would probably be the closest match (and it's not just Grunter anymore that carries the skin, so it wouldn't be TOO hard to get).

I think that Grunter would be most fitting. That, and I've found Grunter and given him away to random hunters on at least three different occasions, so I think that it's about time that I tame the spiky hog myself.

I'll then tame a Mudbelly Boar while I'm conveniently in Loch Modan, then go tame a raptor over on the Lost Isles and get myself a dog and a bat from Tirisfal Glades. I happen to already have that exact ravager, so that's one less trip to make!

Only goblins who haven't completed the starting area can get to the Lost Isles. If you're referring to the troll starter area, I believe they're the Senjin Isles or some such (forgot the exact name).
