Pandaren Starter Pet: Turtle + Other MoP Info

Frostheim posted his post-BlizzCon hunter colum and has stated that the Pandaren starter pet will be a turtle.

In the colum he also talks about what Blizzard is thinking about doing with pet talents; either doing away with them completely or making them similar to players new talents.

And here's an article on WHU with everything he asked GC, which includes a very funny photo of GC acting like he,s holding a gun or crossbow.

Stated in this article also, is that a Stampede-like ability is a future possibility for BM hunters!

And last but not least,
"I asked about the new Transmorph Trap and whether you could use both that and a Freezing Trap to CC two targets at once (or if you could only have one active at a time). He said that yes, you could. That's actually a perfect choice as a starter pet.

I disagree about pandaren racials being hunter-hostile: not as good as worgen in pve no, but that 3 second stun would be a handy panic button to have in PVP.

Huh, now I'm not sure why I didn't think of Turtles originally. It makes perfect sense. I was leaning towards Foxes perhaps, but a Turtle fits them spot on.

I wonder if there's any chance we may get a new turtle model in MoP. Though they already got some love in Cata with the Tortolla/Nemesis revamps, a slightly different style of tortoise would be very interesting to see to tie in with the Asian themes, something more akin to the statues and concept art we've been seeing so far.

That would be wonderful; maybe something with a flatter shell for variation.

The ancient/fire turtle skins turned out incredibly well; this would be exciting.

It’s a definite possibility that hunters will see something like that, though not something that is currently in the works or definitely planned. Ghostcrawler pointed out that if they did it it would not be “actual” pets that you control, but instead just a bunch of pets (possibly random, possibly your active stable of 5) that charged whatever there was to attack and munched away for a while, possibly applying random pet abilities at the same time."

Very reminiscent of using a herd of stampeding mammoths in Borean Tundra. LOL would love to have this.

actually this was an ability used by Rexxar the orc/ogre halfbreed, the first BM hunter blizzard made, if you played warcraft 3 he was a hero you could get from either a mercenary hut, or a bonus campain, he helped thrall when establishing Durotar. his level 6 ability summoned a lot of thunder lizards from him that would ravage your enimies,

Surprisingly enough unlike other classes, this will be the first Hunter lore reference ability, I wish we would get more abilities from him (like two pets out at once...)

That would be cool. Or a Chinese "dragon turtle" inspired turtle
