Porcupine and silkworm tameability: GC approved

This may upset some of you, but keep in mind everything is up in the air right now...

I just got word back from Noah and he gave me the go-ahead to let you all know.

The ability to tame porcupines and silkworms currently on the beta is not intended. The only reason they can be tamed is that those NPCs were initially boars that they changed to other things. The taming flag and family remained on by mistake. A very fun mistake!

That doesn't mean that they won't end up tameable, either (though I personally severely doubt silkworms will be!). According to Noah they're still deciding on what they want tameable.

The reason I asked if I could post this now is so everyone gets used to the idea that those pets may or may not remain with us, and they don't get their hearts set on them. If they go it won't be a such huge shock.

On the other hand, there should be many awesome new tameable things to come! I'm excited to see what they do pick (and having sceptically tamed a porcupine I really found it a credible pet and I hope it stays too!)

Moderator edit: Edited the title for new information. Check up with the newest starting on page 5.

Awww. :( Well, thanks to both of you guys for the heads up! Hopefully the love for both families will provide a strong case for allowing them to be tamable in the future. :)

I thought that might be the case, esp with the porcupines. They just didn't seem like hunter pets to me. Guess I'll tame one now though just for the screenshots. :D

Porcupines did seem rather odd, so not overly surprised there, but I do think they could be feasible pets having seen them tamed. Silkworms are no surprise, shame they're rather cute though.

I'd gladly trade both of those in for hydras or mushans though. :D ;)

oh yea hydras..

methinks its time for hydras *nod nod*

i would give up the idea of porcupines for hydras, as much as i love porcupines

So besides new skins, that leaves us with Cranes as the only new tameable beast for MoP? (I mean completely new beasts, not new (pretty) tigers and turtles.

Right now then I'm dissapointed with what we are seeing for MoP. I know it's not done yet, but still. Loosing porcupines is going to hurt for a lot of you, I feel for you on that. Considering the amount of exploring that's already been done, I don't think we are going to see a lot more.

The one I really want is the mantidtank. But not going to hold my breath on that. Will be planning on using some of my old-school pets.

Oh, and the new Gyroworms.. but I'm not holding my breath.

Something tells me in Panda I'll be running with 2 spirit beasts, Trex, Chromag, and either a boar or undead eagle. As much as I like the new tiger skins, they are going to be way too common early on.

It's way, WAY too early in the beta to discount anything yet. :)

That said....

Bummer, but totally understandable. It is a beta afterall. But if Noah is reading this, PLEASE leave the porcupines ;) They rock.

Can't wait to see what else beta has in store though, thanks for the heads up!

And if there's any question about what family ability porcupines could have....

Yeah, you know you just read that in Marrowgar's voice. :headbang:

It's all Caly's fault! He's just so tiny and charming!

And he has the eyes....
