Non Account Wide Mounts

The reason being for the gold sink mounts though... why yes, it would be a lot more practical if they were account-wide and that's the PRECISE reason they aren't. These mounts are intended to go for a high price, and stay at a high price due to mats and demand. As soon as you make them account wide, then no one will have to buy more than one of them and suddenly demand and price drop. The gold sinks are no longer valuable as gold sinks, and the constructed mounts (panthers, choppers, etc) are likely to be sold at such a small profit margin that there's little point to making them once the novelty wears off. In order to keep demand up, they have to make it so people have a reason to keep buying them.

Though hell, anything to dent the pockets of the 1%, I say. I plan on making as many of those gem cats as I can. @_@

Well said. They're not deliberately trying to be evil greedy corporates (because what good is virtual gold to a RL corporation?), they're trying to make sure the gold sinks they implement continue to work. Making the gold sink mounts account-wide would 'break' them in a sense because suddenly less of them would be 'required' and thus less of them would be doing their job.

A LOT. Iirc something like 40k or craziness PER cat, and you need all of them to make the winged version.

I agree that with all the new gold sinks, we don't need old ones. That's not the point, though--the point is that they're saying "we're going to make mounts account-bound, but NOT the ones that cost a lot of money--we're putting those into a different category because we want you to continue to waste gold." They might like the idea of gold sinks, but not everyone does.

I'm glad they made the subdued seahorse account bound. I literally got it the morning my sub expired and I held onto it not knowing if it was going to be account or character bound. If it was account bound, I'd use it on my rogue but if it was character bound it'd be whoever my main turns out to be in Mists. For now at least it's account bound so I won't have to hunt for it on my Horde faction server (I got it on my Alliance rogue).

As to the goldsinks, I don't like it but it makes sense. I can/have already made most of them for who I want and those I don't I can make them when I want. The only problem is going to be the cost of the JC panthers. It'll be too expensive to do them for all my alts so I'll probably only do two for my two faction mains.

I don't mind gold sinks to be truthful. I'm also glad that I've been lvling my alts JC lately.

This. Exactly this. I understand they want to keep gold sink items in the game, but there will be so many new gold sinks in MoP that I will not be buying the old ones on alts, surely. Even if we get grossly showered with gold in MoP, I still think 40k for sandstone will be quite an amount.

I agree about buying mounts for alts.

However...

40k, with just one gathering profession, will be EASY in the first weeks of Pandaclysm. Heck, just sit in the very first starting zone, and skin like mad while everyone is killing the quest mobs.

Maybe quests will give more gold in Pandaria. Hopefully if that's the caste it's a LOT more to make these more realistic.

They definitely do give a lot more gold. Everything inflates in each expansion.

I don't get it.
I've read through the thread, but may have missed it.

Does this mean that reputation mounts (like the Talbuks) will be account bound? City/racial mounts?

So if one of my toons got all his reps up and got the 50+ mounts for the white dragon mount, then all my toons on that account will also? or only once they also grind their rep?

In beta, racial mounts (faction-restricted), rep mounts, and achievement mounts are all account-wide. Mostly, it's expensive vendor and crafted mounts that are not.

Yar. Talbuks are def. accountwide. So, presumably, are netherdrakes, fangballoons (I mean nether rays), achievement mounts (the protos) and what have you.

Things that do not appear to be:
Gold sink/multiperson mounts
RAF mounts
Class mounts (felpony, charger)
And some or all of the AT mounts (I know the argent charger/warhorse are a no, but the faction tourney mounts may still be okay, haven't checked that.)

I also expect there's gonna be a lot more dragonhawks around since it's going to be counting everything at once.

I'll definitely have a dragonhawk once they do account-wide. I have so many mounts spread across so many characters I'll be getting close to the next achievement I think. Will be nice to pick and choose who gets what mount instead of being restricted to whatever I happened to have.

I know beta is beta, but maybe someone changed their mind....or it's a bug.

Aaaaand that is the sound of my hopes to finally get to use my zhevra on a regular basis crashing to the ground. ;w; I was silly and gave it to my rogue (who was my only max-or-near-it toon aside from my main at the time) because Ziarre had some cool mounts already.

Maybe they decided, well we can allow WOTLK gold sinks in.... ??? I could see them possibly coming to a "middle ground" by allowing previous gold sinks BOA, but the new ones (like the 60k Yakk) not be BOA right away at least

That would be good news, I love those choppers / hogs. I have 3 myself.

Do you (or maybe someone else) have the Sandstone Drake as well to test?

Eh, gold sinks should be boa regardless. I can't imagine there would be enough people buying multiples out there. (And not for resell)

I really hope the RAF/Goldsinks make it into BoA. I can't imagine why RAF wouldn't be. Sorta silly.
