I just hope that the beasts they are currently using are place holders. While the mechanics of the new challenges is awesome..the beasts aren't anywhere worth the effort =/

Im pretty sure they are permanent cause they were already existing as common skins before they were removed for a time and then re-added as these rares, and some skins werent even in beta but were datamined before they became one of the rares :/ With a couple of them being already on my absolutely-must-have list i'll def be partaking in getting them, and i do feel that the color choices for each of them is enough to make them stand out in a crowd. But def, compared to past rares we've seen, it can be a bit weird and to some, a let down cause we're so used to beasties with crazy coloring, vivid coloring, or added special effects.

Edit: Forgot about Bristlespine.. ok, all but one seems vivid enough for people to be able to tell what was a common mob and what was a rare. Though for those with strange monitors (which has been proven once so far), Savage is difficult to tell apart from his grey cousins for some people. But in the game as a whole, Bristlespine is the only one that looks like a common if you dont have the two colors side by side. Least, i had to flip back and forth several times quickly to be able to see the difference in color, it was rediculiously hard to tell them apart at first.

all but one (the Quil) are insanely boring. I'm very disappointed with the new pets we got in MoP. The only two worth whiles is the new tiger skin and the Quil. At least Terropane was a turtle that was worth camping. It's sad to put these new mechanics in the game for such boring looking pets. At least the 5 spiders in MF had some 'shine' to them for being the same recycled model.

Are we even getting a spirit beast? D:

EDIT: I am happy that we get to tame the OLD Water striders. who hasn't gone into zanger and not think "I wish I could tame that".

I would give up the goat, the proc, silkworm and crane for one tamable hydra or buggy eyed demon dog/core hound.

It has been told through Wain that blizz has plans in 5.1 to put in 2 spirit beasts and the wine colored silkworm(?)

You know, Humar, Old Cliff Jumper, and Mazzranache for starters were highly sought after pets in classic WoW, and all of them were recolors of existing skins. Even though they don't have the same hype Loque did, I'm willing to bet these models will still be highly sought after.

That's exactly the point I try to make. We tend to forget that the unique shiny models tend to be the exception, and not the rule--and who doesn't remember camping out for Humar back in the day, and hoping they'll survive the tame when he calls for his pride?

Granted, I was owned by Dishu's cubs, so that might just be a personal problem for me.

Yeeeeey so you can literally tame it without getting a big paw or tentacle across the face or a beak through the eye?

Yep! They don't even notice. It's pretty funny.

I'm glad that was confirmed -- after taming Savage, I was getting massive lag at vendors and questgivers, so I thought that might have been it.

It's probably not intended though...

It's probably a side effect of the "no one else can see them" pseudo-phasing. Hopefully it'll be written off as a feature. xD If not, hopefully it can be fixed without too much trouble.

Eh. I'm sorry you feel that way but I have to completely disagree. All the skins are unique, even if the porcupine is only *just* a different shade of blue from the common mobs. I realise they don't seem to have the uniqueness of what we'd normally see on a rare mob, but in my opinion the skins they picked for the rares are really pretty. And Savage especially looks a bit more 'unique' in terms of the pure white coat and glowing blue eyes, all of the other tigers so far appear more 'natural' looking. Savage is my favourite by far, but I'm pleased especially with the pink crane and quilen as well.

I remember all the people getting the rake and that other kitty because of their natural DPS (when pets actually had differences from eachother and taming an elite mattered xD)

Actually, Broken Tooth was 1.0 (0.87 with 5 points in the original Serpent's Swiftness talent) -- great for messing up casters in PvP. Some PvE hunters peferred Ursius for his slow but hard-hitting 2.4 attack speed which made him a good tank.

The one I miss the most is Boo, my AV Frostwolf. He could literally run circles around epic ground mounts. I used to like running him around Ironforge with Eyes of the Beast. You could hit dash twice and have him complete the circle, returning to you just as EotB wore off.

I'm still flabbergasted at how long they left in the unequal attack speeds and pursuit speeds before correcting them to be equalized after taming. Of course they didn't intend the imbalance... but something tells me it wasn't even on their radar until other classes QQed about it.

And since they had those special abilities, people didn't really care what they looked like. Broken Tooth looked just like any other regular mountain lion, Deathmaw was just another black worg, etc. Now it's all about rare skins.

Yeah, I think the ones with 1.2 attack speed were...actually some very nondescript brown cougars in Thousand Needles. The Rake was...1.3 attack speed, I think! Most cats didn't go below 1.6, though, so they were a common tame unless you wanted slow attacks (and thus bigger crits), which was when you'd find a bear. I was sad when they changed it because I didn't have room to keep my Broken Tooth for sentiment, but at the same time...it gave hunters so much more choice than they previously had. That choice has only become more varied with each expansion.

On a side note, sometimes I stop by Dragon's Mouth to say hi to Broken Tooth, for old time's sake.

Patrannache is so hard to find... I see tracks, then they disappear. I have a vague idea of his path but I need to flare him out to follow him. Hasn't happened yet. Aaah. But he's up. Just sneaky.

I just miss the whole old pet system (except the pet leveling). I loved coming to Petopia and carefully planning out what pets I wanted (only could have 2 at the time, since you needed to leave one slot for learning new pet spells) and what pets I needed to tame to learn those new pet spells. Pets also had value because of those spells.. those were the days.

I don't. I've been in this since 'nilla, and I HATED the clumsy, clunky old mechanics, the real Dead Zone (may it stay dead in infamy), the tiny stables (that you couldn't even fill). People get so damn rosy-glasses about past expacs and just frankly don't really remember how bad life sucked back then.

And... for god's sake, why are people griping about these again? Weren't ALL of the 'challenge tames' in Cata just 'recolors of existing skins'? AND most of them were SBs/BM-only. Here we've gotten a dozen new models, most of the challenge tames AREN'T BM-only, and people are whining....why? I don't get it. x_x

The fact that life sucked for us back then made it all the sweeter when we owned someone who thought we were an easy gank. I also miss the old pet mechanics and I disagree that they were clumsy and clunky. In the end, it was coding that had to be stripped for more important things, just like the talent system that was getting bloated had to be gutted multiple times. In fact I WANT HAPPINESS, LOYALTY AND PET LEVELING BACK! So there.

Too, I get that people are whining about a lack of uniqueness in the new rares. Personally, I like them and plan to tame at least a couple. My post above was merely to note the differences in what attracted us to rares in vanilla compared to what attracts us to them now -- unique abilities as opposed to unique colouration and/or actual rareness.

I'm fairly certain there is a sort of happiness addon you can get that will make you sort of grind up happiness with your pets? I could be wrong.
