Your wish is grantedLoki wrote:Haha, yeah the giraffe/gazelle skins don't work out very well. Do talbuks/stags do any better ? I was also wondering if the talbuk skin mapped onto the giraffe (and I saw in another thread the talbuk/stag skins mapped onto the horses, do the horse skins map back onto the stags/talbuks at all ?), I doubt it but they do look kinda similar.

Re: Miscellaneous skin mash-ups
No, their skin formats are virtually identical to the current turtle (same as the core hounds) but their faces are a different shape (different to the core hounds). So unfortunately they'd only be worse. To give you an idea of where they don't line up on the model, here's the ancient skin on a regular turtle. It's not horrific, just minor stuff:Ceravan wrote:Just thought about something, related to corehounds and turtles.... what about the new model turtles, like Terrorpene and Ghamoo-Ra? Are they interchangeable with the corehound skins, or even the classic turtles? Maybe the void skin would work better with the new models.
Most of the issues are, as expected, around the face. The tusk and mouth textures are wrong and some of the other nobbly bits are the wrong textures. The undershell is also lacking any texture. These effects would also translate from the core hound to the ancient model, and vice versa.

Re: Miscellaneous skin mash-ups
I only just learnt how to use the colour channel mixer in Gimp tonight. Basically it allows you adjust each colour channel as a % of each of the three colour channels. So you can, for example, subtract some red from the areas its currently prevalent or add some red in areas where blue is currently prevalent. Using this you can adjust some of the colour of skins while preserving other things, like areas of white. I suspect it's not very useful in all circumstances, but I'm certainly finding it valuable already. There are probably people reading this that think this is a basic function and are now realizing how limited my understanding is of graphics software

Anyway, I tried this out on the brown stag model and found it was pretty easy to generate new colours that are fairly natural. I didn't spend a lot of time tweaking these to be perfect but they could very easily be adjusted further. This is just to give you an idea.

First though I'm just about done playing with wyverns. Hopefully I'll post some of those tomorrow night.

Thanks to both Spiritbinder and Kurasu for input and guidance on these

Wyverns were surprisingly hard to get decent colours from. But somehow that made me more determined to get ones that I liked. I used the channel mixer on all of these to tweak the colours. I also pasted over the mouth and teeth from a standard wyvern skin as they all have the same mouth and tooth colour (the first time I've edited models this way). The standard skins also all have the same eye and stinger colours, but I decided to let them vary, as I think the colour differences make them far more interesting.
There are only three skins in the database: orange, blue and green. This means that pretty much any base colour should be acceptable, but I tried to keep them from getting too oversaturated or bright.
I love the pink spots on this dark grey. Makes it very cheery:
And the pink-purple-blue highlights and spots on this brown:
Lavender purple, with mint highlights that really stand out:
Gold with blue details:
I didn't try to make this terracotta orange, but it kept cropping up anyway so I saved a few different ones and selected my favourite. It's ok but kinda boring:
Pretty pale one with blue eyes:
As for reds, I tried a whole series of them but was never very happy with them. They're not *bad* but I thought they were kinda boring. Like bland tomato soup. One example is here:
In the end I decided to scrap the reds and try for something more interesting. I downloaded a pic of a ginger-red golden lion tamarin and used that as a guide to create a new golden-brown-ginger one. I tweaked it to get it darker and less saturated. It's still very strong and bright but I really am pleased with the result. I also love the iridescent blue on the wings:
And finally a couple of dark ones. The first one is a very pallid dark, while the second one is very saturated and the darkness tends to remove some of the texture. But I thought I'd put them both up anyway:

Now wyverns are out of the way, here's a few spiked spiders I put together todayIkutai wrote:If you can, would you do some recolourings of the Spiked Spiders from BC content?

Some shiny single colours. I think I love the silver one the most. It's like moonlight.
A few multicolour ones, including a black and white one:
What could be more fitting than a spiderman coloured spider?
Finally, I was experimenting with a bioluminescent one. Maybe something from deep underground, amongst glowing fungi and the like. I'm not satisfied with how it turned out, but at least you can see the concept of it:
