There's clearly a lot of leeway on what can be used for mail. A lot of the stalker sets look like leather more than they do mail. Then we have a lot of older sets that actually do use official plate artwork (or even cloth!). For this particular set, given the nature of the beast, I'd say it was fitting for it to look like hard pieces. The design also has enough potentially interlocking pieces that you could consider it some form of mail (assuming it's composed of a number overlapping pieces rather than one hard plate with a design engraved on it).

To me it has a great "imperial" or Mogu look to it and would be a fitting late tier type of armour where things get very fancy and less like drab, realistic armour.

I know what to do with the Quilen set: make it either some high-level plate dropped off Mogus in a speculative Thunder King 5.1 patch, or a tier for warriors or another plate wearer. Hunters aren't the only class getting tiers based on enemies after all.

I think that the best candidates for a hunter "-stalker" tier are already covered. Mantids are an overarching, common enemy, and Quilen are companions to another major enemy. The remaining new beasts aren't really to iconic for the expansion. Unless we get a patch with a raid against a possessed crane god and hunters get a Cranestalker, I don't see much sets in the same vein in the current beastiary.
Okay, the very last potential idea would be Spritestalker. Like those little thorny tricksters who play catch with jade from that mine.

Well like most of the previous tiers it depends what the raid is based on.

In fire lands we had a had a hunter shannox so our tier was based on that. In DS it was all about DW and dragons so we ended up with Dragonstalker v2.0

I haven't payed much attention to our first raid entry tier for MoP
If its based on mogu and Quillen than we most likely end up with a tier based on that or if its based around mantids then the chance is big we end up with a mantid based tier as already sketched here.

There's even a chance we might end up with a dragon stalker v3.0 tho (cloud serpent style >_>)

personally i would like a tier based on the new cranes. :3

First tier of MoP raiding is three raids:
1) Terrace of Endless Springs - a bunch of corrupted Jinyu and a Sha
2) Heart of Fear - Mantid raid, with the empress apparently possessed by the same Sha from the other raid.
3) Mogu'Shan Vaults - Mogu raid, with Titanic elements.

First of all, I don't know how I missed this thread until now. Second of all, HOLY FREAKING SHELLFISH, BATMAN! Those quilin sets look amazing! Naturally, I love the green/jade set the best, but the dark purple is a very close second.

well looking at the druid one that one looks awesome in my opinion or at least the headpiece does.
now that I am looking at the hunter tier again it seems based on Mongolian warriors. but the horns are way to big.

Very true, but from memory the Paladin(?) has already revived the "White Tiger" theme as their set, but yeah, still think it would make a swell hunter set also

bah i dislike the yak stalker set..

to me it seams like the higher in lvl u get the chunkier the sets are.. would have loved something more simple but with more detals and brigther colors
