WMV users : back up your WoW folder before 19 July!

WoW Model Viewer isn't yet ready to read the Legion database. There are massive changes required, and also some complications since Legion no longer provides the convenient list of file names that older expansions did. :/

This means that after the pre-Legion patch arrives on 19 July your copy of WMV may not be able to find any database that it can read.

So I'd suggest making a duplicate of your WoW folder now, and then once the patch hit you can adjust your copy of WMV to read from the backup folder (in Options).

Hopefully WMV will read the Legion database format eventually, but this should keep it running for now.

Oh, thanks for the heads up! I might do this. What specific folders/files do you need to keep?

I think the Data folder is probably enough but just to be safe it might be best to copy and paste the entire thing if you have room.

Thank you for the heads up! I just backed up the whole folder in case! :)

Well, just had my computer crash while I was playing WoW and the crash corrupted all of my saved variables and addon settings. ;_; If it weren't for you suggesting this Wain I would have lost it all permanently but now I had that recent backup at least.

Still, just lost all of the tweaking and fiddling I've done since the patch came out and I have to redo it all. T_T

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I haven't been able to get this to work with the version of WoW that I backed up. :( Any tips? I miss having WMV. </3

I can't check the exact instructions as I'm not in Windows right now, but do you know how to make WMV read from a folder you specify, rather than a detected copy of WoW? If you did that right and it's still not reading it then I'm unsure :(

Yeah, it was a bit hard for me the first time I tried it, but I am a computer noob despite loving them so much. Go into Options->Settings->And rewrite the game path based on where you are keeping the copied files. For the backed up files I used the "Data" folder as Wain had suggested and that seemed to work. I hope you can get it to work! ^.^

Yep, I've been redirecting it to the copied folder and the Data subfolder in that, but every time I just get "Fatal Error: Could not find any locale from your World of Warcraft folder" :(

Hmm :(

What if you change the path to the parent folder?

Yeah, I've tried a couple different paths. :( Ah well, thanks guys! I think I'm just out of luck until WMV can be updated for Legion. I miss it though. ;_;

The first Legion compatible alpha for the WMV has been released!
Doesn't load textures for me, though...

Oooh. I'll try and see if I can get it to work. All my computer stuff is still in the bathroom at my apartment and I'm not sure how quickly I'll hook everything up once I'm home. Lol

Yay!

It sort of works for me, character models don't really load but some creatures do. Better than nothing, and I'm glad they're working on it. :)

I didn't realize Jeromnimo had started work on it until I saw the announcement. He kept it quiet. I had previously tried to get it working for Legion but it was beyond my ability to get it done. Now it's underway I'll see what I can help with.
