I'd be extremely surprised if GW2 wasn't a longstanding MMO given the quality of it and how much people love the Guildwars franchise. Unless Arenanet pulls a Blizzard and releases something like Cataclysm as an expansion, I think they'll have a reasonable amount of players for quite some time.
Never said you said it was. :3 I said OTHERS did.
I know? You just posted your opinion so I explained why myself and probably why others are praising the game this early on. :P Shedding some light if you will.

Aside from the fact that they're both MMOs, WoW and GW2 are very different games. I love them each for what they are, and I intend to play both of them because there's no reason it has to be one or the other. :) All I can say is, GW2 has impressed me more than my wildest expectations, and that's saying a lot because I'm generally extremely skeptical and uninterested in other MMOs as a whole.

I get kinda pissy when people compare WoW to GW2 in too much detail. Yes, they're both MMOs... that's about it. They share not very much in common otherwise.

And, like Veph, I'm normally super-uninterested in other MMOs, but a year ago I played the alpha of GW2 at Eurogamer and... I loved it. It was amazing. I knew I had to have it!

Yup! :D I think I'm just super excited at how much I'm enjoying myself which is why I can't stop gushing about the game. It was such a pleasant surprise to give this game a chance and find out how much I'm genuinely loving it.

GW2 doesn't have a free demo, does it? (like WoW has)

I'd really like to try it, but still $60 is a lot of money to put down to find out my system won't run the game decently, or that I really don't like the game.

Unless I read a review wrong, I thought that the "Holy Trinity", warrior, healer, everyone else, wasn't going to be a big factor for dungeons but I've been seeing people specifically ask for Guardians and Elementists to do them. Maybe its an aspect of MMOs that people can't get away from.

Some people can't break free of having the usual status quo. They want to work with what they're familiar with. I know groups with odd mixes that have done well, but some classes do need a bit of tweaking to be made more efficient.

I think it's just a habit that people do. They need to be selective and perfect-percentage things to be as optimal as they possibly can. To my knowledge GW2 doesn't really work like that, and I thought Arenanet was trying to discourage people from it. Personally, the two dungeons I went to were randomly selected and we did fine. Bit bumpy at times since we were all at level with the dungeon, but we got to the end.

I don't know anything about GW2...but it looks pretty interesting...

Raven form? is that a racial thing or a class thing? What about those feral kitty things? can those be hunters? or those wolf things with the horns?

Something tells me I should read up on this game...not to mention the things you can tame look really AWESOME!!

The raven form is a race-specific ability to the Norn, who can shapeshift into a spirit animal at level 30 (there's raven, bear, snow leopard, and wolf).
The feral kitty things I believe you mean are a race called the Charr, which are also the wolf things with the horns I think you're talking about. Every race can be every class (called professions), so yes they can be rangers (hunters). They're a bipedal feline race, but I think I can see how some of the males look a bit wolfish.

The game's really fun, and since there's no subscription fee it was an easy choice for me to buy it. I'm glad I did, since I've been absolutely loving it.

I think I'll give the game a try. It looks pretty interesting. is there a lot of customization for character creation? looking through the screenshots here, there seems to be many different Charr variations. Any good sites to take a peek about more info? (i know a google serch would probably show me a bunch, but is there on in particular that's more helpful?)

Yeah, the customizations are fantastic. :) I'd take a look at the official site, there's lots of info on the races with pictures and videos and such.

Is there free trial out yet? I think MMOs nowadays should have one at start. I miss demos games just don't do them anymore and I don't have the cash to spend on a $100 game I might not like :/

To be able to test out a game would be neat ($60 where I am), might be able to buy it next Friday if i don't spend this weeks allotted self spending.

I would highly recommend looking through their website and wiki: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/

And yes Makoes, from a video I've seen, the customization is pretty nice.

Edit: Sorry, quoted Veph to add to her explanation to Makoes.

There's a bunch of pictures in this thread: http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/465 ... age-heavy/

The chunky-faced ones with large horns are the males, and the sleeker, more feline-looking ones are the females. It's pretty much the only beast-race I've seen where you can make the females just as feral-looking as the males.
