Pokemon X and Y

(First of all hi long time)

I just recently got a 3DS LX new and pokemon X. (boyfriend has Y) This is more or less my first pokemon game and I don't know what I'm doing. xD I was more or less checking if anyone else plays?

One of my friends gave me some pokemon (to high to use atm) but they said they where promo or event stuff you cant get? Don't know the deal with that but they linked me a useful site to tell me when an event is going on. (this place: http://www.serebii.net/games/currentevents.shtml)

Anyways...I'm having fun but thought it be nice to throw a friend code out so I could battle with people I know rather then online play.
