Help with an Owl name

Unread post by Runethia »

Hello all! I really need your help in coming up with ideas for an owl. Usually I'm fairly okay with coming up with something... but this owl is leaving me stumped, and I hate staring at the words "bird of prey".

I was originally leaning toward some sort of sunset-themed name for him, or maybe something to deal with the word burning, but drawing up blanks. I'm very open to regular wise/intelligent-sounding fantasy names though, or perhaps an autumn-themed name. Preferably a male one since I tend to get a 'he' vibe from him, but if there's a female one you think really sticks out I'll take those too!

Samples of pet names I have:

Tantrums - Crocolisk
Khargol - Boar
Grigori - Undead Wolf
Lavender - Purple Saber-cat
Tarragon - The Evalcharr

Also apologies for the not-quite-ultra pictures. I play on a potato and getting those two screenshots was hard. x_x

For a burning kinda word, maybe Cinders?

For an autumn-y one, Harvest

Some names of gods in human mythology; Apollo, Coeus, Ganesha, Fukurokuju, Kuebiko, Tenjin (I definitely suggest, if you like the idea of naming him after a mythological god, to look these guys up cause each one has around one to three or four different things they represent that might fit really well with your owl. Kuebiko for example is the Japanese scarecrow god of wisdom and agriculture :) )

The colors on that owl are just gorgeous!

Here are some names inspired from fire ...

Ashkenaz (M): An Israeli name meaning "a fire that spreads".
Aviur (M): A name having both Israeli and Hebrew roots that means "father of fire".
Azar (M/F): Iranian name meaning "fire".
Candent (M): An adjective defined as "emitting light; glowing with heat".
Pyrrhos, Pyrrhus, or Pyrros (all M): Greek names all meaning "flame-like".
Siria (F): a Persian name meaning "sun-bright".

I tend to default to Minerva or Athena when I have an owl pet, since they were sacred to her. I don't believe the owl that was often seen with her had a name, however...

Thanks for all the suggestions; my favorites are Ganesha, Ashkenaz, and Aviur. Ganesha fits really well despite not having a direct fire connotation, and it's aesthetically pleasing to read. I like Ashkenaz because not only does it fit the fire theme, it fits really well with another pet that I have - Ashbel, my dragonhawk. Aviur is really good too, not only because it's short, sweet, and easy to read (and fits the fire theme too), but also because it looks similar to the word "avian".

I haven't quiet decided between the three of them though. :S I'll edit this post when I've finally figured it out.

Thank you to everyone who has helped me. :D
