I'm not sure, becaus some of the names from the list on the first page I already had/have on some of my pets on an EU-Server.
But I noticed Lotr-names don't work here, too (tried to name my spider Frodo).

That's an interesting question. I imagine that the restricted names are region-specific, although there will be some overlap.

I swear I had a pet named Ashitaka once. O_o. Baron is a reserved name too, I think. (The hunter trainer's dog in Gilneas starting zone) . I remember wanting to name my dog after it but it wouldn't let me.

Lincoln is reserved. I was going to name Sambas that, ended up with Link.
Strangely Epic was not. I named Deth'tilac that.

Just an FYI. I tamed Sambas and named him Aslan. Name is not reserved, which I'm grateful for. I had him named long before I tamed him.

Any idea when this whole mess started? I had a human hunter that I had not played for awhile (his name is Hagrïd, so I planned on going with Harry Potter "names" for my pets), and when I finally log back on to tame my fox for "Hufflepuff" (no badgers in the game...yet... ) It told me that was a reserved name! Yet I have a bird named "Ravenclaw", and a spider named "Aragog"... I have a suspicion that "Gryffindor" and "Slytherin" will be reserved too... <sigh>

You can't name a pet "Havok" but the name "Havoc" is ok.



It's something that Blizzard consistantly updates to avoid any potential lawsuits from copyright infringment. The restricted names list has grown quite large ever since BC and Wrath as more and more hunters seek outside influences for their pet names.

Well, it turns out that "Gryffindor" was fine, so I suspect that maybe the "puff" part of "Hufflepuff" was the issue? "Puff the Magic Dragon", anyone? Lol...

Samara is a restricted name. *grump* I think it's because of the Frank Lloyd Wright house?
