Re: Potential new hunter pets in WoD
^ I like where you're coming from I'd love that model as a tameable mob, and the idea of it being the last of its kind is pretty cool. Until you see many of them wandering around next to hunters. Perhaps it could be a brood? The mother is dead/dying and her young children are the last of their [i[brood[/i] and you can either kill one or take one. Making it specific for hunters would be cool, and as I've heard Garrisons are deep embedded in your levelling experience, why not make it a quest that only hunters can receive from there? Like a little mini scenario. A scout returns with tales of a huge Rylak that isn't like anything they've seen before. You, as a hunter, go check it out. It's second nature you see the dead mother, and see the children. They're bound to die without her, and so you take one home with you.
I'm only saying the last brood as if the idea is as popular as you say, then we'd see loads of hunters running around with one of these beasties. It wouldn't of been the last of its kind then. There'd be loads. To have it as the last brood would mean having loads of what is viewed as a sole survivor would make it less questionable.
In all honesty, I don't care how we get this model. As long as I can get this sexy chimaera/Rylak I'm happy ^_^

Well, honestly, this is the case with everything in WoW. Only a few were lorewise present at the fall of Garrosh, yet multiple people have his axe and shoulderpads. Only one King Krush or Loque'nahak exists in the world, yet there are multiple hunters with it. Having multiple people with something that is supposedly rare is just a technicality -- something you sacrifice by having a lot of players in the game. The story could still easily be that it is the last of its kind.
Kunchong for hunter pets!

Yet another unpopular suggestion. Aside of placing penguins, gulls and cranes as waterbird together, why not terror claw chick and bush chicken and put together with tall strider and rename the group as thunder bird while adult terror claws become bird of prey? Why different group when they grow up you ask? We have cattepillar in exotic worm group growing up as normal moths, thats why.

True true. I don't mind how it's inplemented, I'd just love to have one some don't like it's...venom sacs? Is that what they are? I've no idea, but people seem to dislike them. I think it just adds to the savage factor of it all. You don't exactly see cute fluffy Rylaks waddling around in a land of savagery.Qraljar wrote:Kayro wrote:^ I like where you're coming from I'd love that model as a tameable mob, and the idea of it being the last of its kind is pretty cool. Pandaria was, don't mind me, pants in the way of pets imo. We got a few families, nothing truly outstanding and most were fluffy. Fluffy porcupines. Fluffy kitties (although they did look cool) and all around it looked more majestic. Let these Rylaks be savage! It's a change form peace loving pandas

Re: Potential new hunter pets in WoD
I think the problem with naming pet families it that some are too specific. It'd be soooo much easier to just have an ungulate family, which basically solves all the ram, shoveltusk, stag, and goat issues. It would also leave a huge amount of room for more additions...like giraffes .w.)b
I know not all of the animals are so easy to mix together into a giant family.. like kodos, rhinos, and mushan.... but it'd just be easier to just say they're different due to their environment... I mean they're trying to say rylaks aren't chimeras... so... I don't think it's too far fetched to say that some animals evolved, devolved, or were enhanced based on their locations...!
Although with that said, the problem would be... that a few of the families might be smashed into each other For example, shalespiders would then be seen as just spiders..which they kinda are, but you see the point. Even so, I still think that this "ungulate" family would be a better name than.. well "stag family" cus then we'd need an "ox family" and "giraffe" family and so on It'd save from bloat and confusion.
pssst, we should also think about what cool family buffs or abilities these ungulates will have
I'd be cool if hunters could ride them around like a ground amount..and it scales based on your riding level.. or something lol

Well, the venom sacs and the large pincers seem like defense mechanisms from a time where living conditions were even harsher, and those seem like an evolutionary trait that was lost when Draenor became a lot less primal and harsh (imagine, an even worse Draenor. I believe it existed when creatures like the colossi/earth giants/grom still existed), and as such, those tools became less of a necessity for survival, which is why, for instance, the pincer tail could have shrunk down to a less functional size.
And yeah, Pandaria wasn't bad, but the pets were quite underwhelming. I know it made a lot of people happy, but for the most part, it just felt.. meh-y. It didn't help that Pandaria also made other people think of "hur hur childish pandas" (I don't agree, but that was the general thought of a lot of people), and then they made a lot of the animals that could invoke a more dangerous and behemoth vibe non-tameable in favour of stuff like silkworms, goats and porcupines.
Yes, I know a lot of people were happy with those, and that's your full right, of course. I just think that neglecting the more imposing beasts in favour of the more critterish-type ones didn't help the idea that "MoP = childish". Aside from that, we also had cranes in their own family, which felt like a bit of a waste. Otherwise, MoP was pretty conservative with pets. Oh, yeah, and the whole spirit beast thing, where it was said that they'd be pretty cool, only to give us RGB transparent porcupines was a bit mehy. I think a lot of us were hoping for a cool, sha-touched pet or something.
That aside, of course they don't have not give us anything, but it has become an expectation over the years, and I think MoP just wasn't the best expansion. Not bad, and I am not ungrateful for it, but it was just not very.. exciting. For one, the rares also seemed barely like rares. The track tame system was awesome, but the rewards, aside from Portent, were a bit meh-y to me.
To finish this, though. I was still happy with MoP, even thought it didn't feel like the best hunter pet expansion. But to put it all in perspective, I think WoD more than makes up for it so far, and will continue to do so as time progresses. I just hope that there are a few more creatures that make it in, including the reptilian rylak (pretty much near the top of my list, now, after others were confirmed tameable, and some others were said to come in the future, possibly: sandreavers, kunchong, pterrorwings, mushan, etc.), which I very much want for its awesome model, as well as the potential it can have, if they build something around it. Even if they don't, though, it's still an awesome and desirable model.
As for "WoD more than makes up for MoP.". I know they don't owe us anything, and they don't need to give us anything. I mean it positively. MoP was pretty underwhelming to me and a lot of people in terms of hunter pets, but WoD is amazing for hunter pets, and is growing even more amazing every time Jeremy Feasel tweets about another tameable pet, or replies to a question with a "yes" or "possibly likely in the future", or when we see that creatures we wanted became tameable in the beta. It is amazing, and I think we're not even done yet.

Re: Potential new hunter pets in WoD
Let us hope that WoD can breath life into WoW again, and hopefully it shall deliver to our standards. Which, I will say, are high. Everything seems new and I'm actually finding myself captivated by the new creatures they're adding. Especially the more unusual ones. Primal Rylaks with venom sacs, wolves before they became worgs, the hydras and everything else added. Yes, hunters are getting special treatment this time around. And I'm loving itQraljar wrote:Kayro wrote: True true. I don't mind how it's inplemented, I'd just love to have one some don't like it's...venom sacs? Is that what they are? Re: Potential new hunter pets in WoD
shame to hear that warp stalkers will probably not be getting updated. They are high on my list of things I'd like to see updated in wod. Perhaps if they get missed this time around we will still see them updated in a patch. id like to see it happen since they are a personal favorite of mine but at this point we have seen so many new things that I certainly cant complain that i didn't get my xpack with a "cherry on top." they have redone a lot of stuff this time so i'm happy.
Re: Potential new hunter pets in WoD
I can't help but wonder where in the world the red hydras are.
I believe I've seen every single questing area covered now, yet the only one I've seen is the rare one up in Talador's Gordal Fortress.
At this point, I'm guessing they might be hiding out on one of those little islands off the coast of Nagrand, Talador, or Spires of Arak. That or they could be in Tanaan Jungle, but we've already got Keravnos and his blue hydras over there.

I'm getting the impression they might eventually be around the beaches and islands in the northern section of Gorgrond, which currently doesn't have any NPCs implemented there.
I guess we'll just have to wait for a new build to learn the truth.

Tamed Mragesh. I love him but dear lord hydras are noisy. I wish you could mute them like you can on live but they went and changed the file type/location/whatever AGAIN and the old muters don't work.

Glyph of the moccasin. Fits your pet's feet with fur-lined moccasin slippers for quiet movement. There is an option to turn off pet noises, but I don't want to turn them ALL off, that's the problem. It's like worgen snuffling; there's a few noises that annoy me because they happen constantly but I don't want to mute the whole flippin' game just for a couple of them. The 'oooaaarararaaar *fappafappafappa* cats do is also obnoxious; I have it selectively muted on live. I don't even know why that sound is in there... cats don't have floppy jowls like a bulldog, I've NEVER heard one make slobber noises when shaking its head. Yuck.

Re: Potential new hunter pets in WoD
I agree there. The cat noises are nasty. Even the proper sabers with the huge teeth and massive jaws shouldn't sound like they're trying to give you a spit shower when they yawn...and if they decide to yawn multiple times in a row, I'll run around a bit just so they shut up. I mean, I love you, but please stop!Nachtwulf wrote:There is an option to turn off pet noises, but I don't want to turn them ALL off, that's the problem. *rerailing thread now*
I quite like vocal pets, but some do grate on you. Cat yawns normally don't bother me, but if Xunsu decides it's funny to yawn three times in a row, completing it off with triple slobber attacks...no. If I go by Gaz'rooki the companion, I quite like it. It's like he's arguing with himself. At least one of us has an excuse to talk to themselves

I appreciate the comments about noisy pets and how annoying they are... but can we keep on the general topic of 'new pets'?
I know, I'm bitchy. But darnit, I'm following only a few threads for this reason!

I thought this was something interesting:

Sounds like we just might see these guys tamable (for those unsure, it's these models that they're talking about):
I'm hoping they are added. It's no dread raven, but gets us close to a dread raven (plus these guys are super cool too).
How about Teroclaw and Teroclaw Chick (Mainly the chick!) as Birds of Prey?
Yes! Though considering their story, maybe closer to Carrion birds or... dare I say... raptors? (Muffinus)

Yeah It was talked about a while back. I want the teroclaw chick and teroclaw (Ji-kun) so badly... Dream pet material right there. Now if I can just get that reptilian rylak and most importantly, a pterrorwing... I can die happy.
