Skins from untameable families

The following is a list of families that could conceivably be tameable, but are currently not. The skins for each are listed and whether they are already in the game or if they are unavailable. This is so that if any new families are made tameable, at least we know what to expect might be present or missing.
Please let me know of any suggestions or corrections.

Index
Kunchong
Mantid use these pretty much like hunter pets, and they also have a very strong resemblance to the already-tameable silithid colossi. It might be worth splitting silithid colossi off from silithids, just like silithid beetles and wasps are, and creating a new kunchong family with these two models.
I think most or all of these are available somewhere....

Elemental Birds
Phoenixes and Fire Hawks seem to belong together in one "firebird" family. They're currently classed as elementals but could very easily be reclassified as elemental beasts. Both are used as trained pets (by NPCs) in certain situations and they have the behaviour of beasts even if they're fiery. Might make a good exotic family
Phoenixes
Unavailable:
Image DarkPhoenix: Harbinger of Darkness
Image DarkPhoenix_Spectral (with armour removed) : light and celestial in form, could be found on the Plane of Air
Available (assuming they're set as beasts):
Image Phoenix : Blazewing (Rare) etc.
Fire Hawks
Note: many of the fiery effects on fire hawks do not render well in WMV. Please do not judge the in-game model based on these blocky pictures!
Unavailable:
Image FireHawk_NoArmorGreen
Image FireHawk_NoArmorPurple
Available (assuming they're set as beasts):
Image FireHawk_NoArmorRed : several mobs in Molten Front and Firelands
Flametalon Mounts
Flametalons are a fiery version of the "Raven God" mount from Sethekk Halls. They could easily be turned into special rares. What family they would belong to is another matter as they are more like raptors than birds in shape
Unavailable:
Image FireRavenGodMountGreen
Image FireRavenGodMountPurple
Image FireRavenGodMountRed

Gyreworms
Gyreworms used to be beasts. Most have been reclassified as elementals, though a few newer ones are classed as beasts again.
Available (assuming they're set as beasts again):
ImageRingWormPurple : used on a couple of mobs in Legion
ImageRingWormAmber : Kyparite etc. in MoP
ImageRingWormEarth : Gorged Gyreworm etc.
ImageRingWormOrange : Terborus (Rare)
ImageRingWormRed : Enormous Gyreworm

Hell Hounds
Hell Hounds are classified as elementals but they're included here in case Blizzard ever change their minds. Shannox (Salamander hunter boss in Firelands) has two as pets, and they do behave just like dogs...
Besides the appearances listed here, some looks have options where the flames are the same colour as the base skin.

Unavailable:
ImageHellHoundBlue - Blue Fire
ImageHellHoundBlue - Orange Fire
ImageHellHoundGreen - Green Fire
Available (assuming they're set as beasts):
ImageHellHoundGreen - Orange Fire : Adarogg (Ragefire Chasm)
ImageHellHoundOrange : Ancient Charhound, Riplimb
ImageHellHoundRed : Charhound, Hell Hound, Kelbnar, Rageface

Cloud Serpents
You may initially have doubts about this group, but there's actually an NPC precedent for these. Mogu hunters are accompanied by a smaller cloud serpent pet on Shane'ze Dao.
Unavailable:
Image PandarenSerpent_White: present in the database but entirely unused
Image PandarenSerpent_White (alt): present in the 'alternative' database and used for the first Arena season cloud serpent mount
Available:
Image PandarenSerpent_Black : Wild Onyx Serpent, Subjugated Serpent, Onyx Stormclaw
Image PandarenSerpent_Blue : Shan'ze Cloudrunner
Image PandarenSerpent_Green : Shan'ze Cloudrunner
Image PandarenSerpent_Red : Shan'ze Cloudrunner
Image PandarenSerpent_Yellow : Shan'ze Cloudrunner
Image PandarenSerpent_Black (Lightning)
Image PandarenSerpent_Blue (Lightning)
Image PandarenSerpent_Green (Lightning)
Image PandarenSerpentRed (Lightning) : Alani <the Stormborn>
Image PandarenSerpent_Yellow (Lightning)
Image PandarenSerpentGod_Black : Hei Feng
Image PandarenSerpentGod_Blue
Image PandarenSerpentGod_Green
Image PandarenSerpentGod_Red
Image PandarenSerpentGod_Yellow
Image CelestialSerpent - maybe a potential spirit beast? :)

Pachyderms
Probably not, but if they were as big as a rhino they'd still make a manageable and credible pet...
Elekks
Unavailable:
None. All accounted for!
Available:
ImageElekkWild02 : one of several colours of the Wild Elekk
ImageElekkWild03 : one of several colours of the Wild Elekk
ImageElekkWild01 : Elekk Demolisher
ImageElekkWild04 : Bull Elekk
ImageElekkWild05 : Tusker
ImageElekkWild_Pink : Pink Elekk etc. (seen when drunk by Allerian Stronghold), others are seasonal with Brewfest. Would make a very unique pet if only seen when drunk! (and in pvp!)
Mammoths
Unavailable:
ImageMammothSkinOrange: looks like it belongs in Ulduar. Assuming a no-harness version exists. Seems to have no animations in WMV
Available:
ImageMammothMountBlack : Shattertusk Bull etc.
ImageMammothMountBrown : Shattertusk Mammoth etc.
ImageMammothMountWhite : Stoic Mammoth etc.

Hawkstriders
Hawkstriders are included in the "Pet skins that are still untameable" list, under Tallstriders. There are currently no hawkstrider models without saddles anyway.

Armadillos, Giant
Probably not... They could have made cool tanking pets but they look a bit low-res when enlarged.
Unavailable:
ImageArmadilloBrown : the standard Armadillo mob in Uldum (though it's small), and one of the colours of the tiny Hairy Armadillo critter in Desolace
ImageArmadilloCrystal : doesn't seem to be used in the game. Has a purple and blue mineral colouring. Would make a great addition to Deepholm
ImageArmadilloGreen : doesn't seem to be used in the game
ImageArmadilloOrange : one of the colours of the tiny Hairy Armadillo critter in Desolace
ImageArmadilloStone : used on the giant rare, Armagedillo, though this beast has extra spikes added. The look would suit a natural beast, or a stony elemental beast for Deepholm

Camels
Very unlikely...
Unavailable:
ImageCamel_White : unsure if used on a beast at all
Available:
ImageCamel_Brown : one possible skin of Wild Camel and Camel
ImageCamel_Gray : one possible skin of Wild Camel and Camel
ImageCamel_Tan : one possible skin of Wild Camel and Camel

Horses
Very unlikely...
Unavailable:
ImageHorseSkinEvil: used on Fel Steed (SFK), which is a demon
ImageHorseSkinZebra : unused. This is the only zebra skin that is included in the horse model folder.
Available:
ImageHorseSkinBlack
ImageHorseSkinBrown
ImageHorseSkinChessnut [sic]
ImageHorseSkinPalamino [sic]
ImageHorseSkinPinto
ImageHorseSkinWhite

Giraffes
Maybe not, but who knows? :)
Unavailable:
None. All accounted for!
Available:
ImageGiraffeSkinDark : used on Longneck Grazer
ImageGiraffeSkinStriped : also on Longneck Grazer
ImageGiraffeSkinSpotted : Barrens Giraffe etc.

And that's it for now! Please let me know if:
- I forgot any obvious families or skins
- A mob is a colour-changer and I didn't realize!
- A mob is missing from the game or now available and I didn't realize!

Thanks :)

When you get the chance of course, would you be considering adding screenies of how they look at some point assuming they are get-at-able for you? For curiousity sake of shiny :)

Yeah, I hope to at least for the skins that aren't available and can't be seen on Wowhead. Will take time :)

Oooh, nice topic! Just wanted to add a family for completeness:

Horses, such as (http://www.wowhead.com/npc=26472)

Scale belly is still in the game, in the back of the basilisk cave in Cape of Stranglethorn. Came across him while questing. Same skin he's always had, as far as I can tell.

That's about all I have to add at this moment. If I think to check on him again, I'll try to nab a screenshot if he looks different.

Edit: Okay, so he was up. The difference between teal and blue in WMV is a bit subtle, and the lighting in the cave isn't the greatest. But I'm fairly confident he's still blue crested. Regardless, here's a screenshot.

Seems reasonable :) The vast majority are friendly, and I suspect most of the rest are colour-changers, but I'll add them.

That's great to know. Thanks! He was never there when I looked.

Awesome! Do want images :D

So Wain, I am curious here--do you think these will ever become tameable? I tend to look at things you post with a "he may have insider knowledge" point of view and forget that you might just have actual non-insider opinions  So I have to ask, if you DO think there's a chance, is that from a regular player's point of view, or the point of view of someone with access to the rumor mill?

If you think there's no chance, of course, disregard! But I for one would kill for a hippogryph pet.

I have no insider knowledge on this at all, I'm afraid. It's all speculation :)

Also, like the other untameable skin changes recently (thunder lizard, mana worms, clefthooves, pterrordax, shoveltusks etc.) which I did have some input into, some of these skins could be added and still have no significance as far as future tameability goes. They could be added for more variety, or (as was my concern) in case the families ever do become tameable.

OK, added Horses. Whether they'd be grouped with Zhevras is open to speculation. The latter have horns, beards and cloven hooves (basically like unicorns in legend). I also assume they'd do horn attacks as well as stomps and so would be separate, but I'm not sure.

I see! I would love to see some of these become tameable in any case--do want zhevra & clefthoof pets!--but regardless, it's nifty info  Thanks!

Thanks! From that pic he's very definitely still blue, but as you say the two colours can be hard to tell apart in some zones (especially zones with a green hue). The blue is a richer colour, the teal-green is less saturated, more like copper oxide.

Hellhounds, this would quite possible be the most epic pet ever.

Yeah, I posted pics on some other thread. They look fantastic, but they're a pile of bones and not a living beast :)

Gondria and arcturis are ghosts, and I forget the ghost wolfs name but yeah him too. not to mention we have undead boars and birds.
