I found a slightly different mana saber tonight: the Mindforged Sabercat (ID 112066), which is in Suramar City, down by the water front, pretty much due north of it. It is tameable.
It uses the dark mana saber skin, but has a ghost effect that stays after taming (including quitting and coming back).
I checked and it doesn't seem to be any kind of buff or stealth effect. If you tame a regular mana saber of the same colour it looks completely solid:

"For example, one rare mechanostrider requires you to create a special punch card that grants access to a closed section of Gnomeregan (we hope you remember the way). Once you locate the clockwork creature, you’ll then need to figure out how to overload its circuits. Solve the puzzle, and you’ll have this magnificent mechanized minion striding by your side."

Interesting, I wonder if this was implemented yet.
Apparently said pet is now a mechanowolf, instead of a mechanostrider.

Is one of the new robot dogs you can tame in Legion, and it seems it can be found in Gnomeregan. You gotta do a puzzle to activate it (something to do with buttons on the wall) and it apparently hits like a truck (guy I saw posting about this is a level 100 Hunter on live, but I'm not sure if he's doing it on a 100-110 hunter in alpha or a lowbie).

I took a level 100 into Gnomer to check Friender. It was level 100. I'm not sure if it scales to the player's level so that a 29+ hunter could tame it. But 2 pics of it at 100:
Not sure if it was said before or not, but if you race change you keep the mechanical pets even if you don't have the ability to tame them any longer. At least currently on alpha. I changed to Blood Elf and I still have both the robo-chicken from Loch Modan and Friender. But if I try to tame another mechanical, it says I don't have the ability to do that. Even though I still have these 2 in my call pet.
Edit: Just noticed the diet - Mechanical bits. Does this mean that all the grey items we get from using engineering to disassemble a mechanical and/or from looting mechanicals can now be used as food for mechanical pets?
Fear. Fear attracts the fearful. The strong. The weak. The innocent. The corrupt. Fear. Fear is my ally.
- Friender is in the Engineering Labs in Gnomeregan
- He's asleep and can't be attacked
- On three of the walls are button/light puzzles that you need to solve to activate him
- once solved he'll activate (no echo, so watch out) and start running around like crazy
- He really hurts if you don't use your defensives (like Aspect of the Turtle)
I'm ashamed to say I'm stuck on the eight-button puzzle. Maybe my brains are mush today - I am doped up on cold and flu medication - but I keep worrying it doesn't always have a solution and I'm wasting my time. Hopefully it's just I'm feeling brain-dead though
I had to reset the dungeon but I got Friender easily the next time. I do wonder if there are possible combos with the 8-light puzzle that aren't solveable.
Remember to pop Aspect of the Turtle when you go to tame, or he'll hurt you very, very much!
