So I was just in a Warsong Scramble (the new pvp brawl) when I saw another Hunter in front of me with a Wolfslayer Sniper Rifle transmog over his Thas'dorah artifact. The thing that caught my eye, however, was that it had an enchant!!

In my haste to see if enchants were actually a ranged weapon thing, I forgot to take a screenshot when I left the bg. I ran to tmog and... nope. I still cannot tmog enchants on ranged weapons. It won't even let me try.

So... how did this guy do it? Is there some special trick? It was distinctly the Wolfslayer Sniper Rifle that his Thas'dorah was tmog'd to (I inspected it). And the enchant was very clearly the "Nightmare" enchant appearance that's dropped by Xavius. Because I spotted him at the start of the match (when you're in the safety of your base before the gates open), I know it wasn't some weird PVP buff offered by the Brawl.

So just... what the heck is going on o_O because holy crap I really wish we could do that regularly lol

For time time being, there is a trick/bug that works for some guns and a few x-bows, here is all the info and combos found thus far....

Enjoy!

1. equip the gun/bow you want to apply the illusion on
2. open the transmogrifier
3. equip a 2h weapon like a sword or polearm
4. select the illusion
5. swap back to the weapon gun/bow
6. apply the illusion

Currently the illusions only show on some guns/x bows listed below

Wild Combatant's Heavy Crossbow
Toxin-Tipped Bolt Launcher
Felfire Munitions Launcher

Illusions on the weapons themselves do look pretty cool, not gonna lie. I like the old blizzcon version of the application, where it's concentrated at the firing point, but I have to imagine it'd look pretty dang cool in other formats on other weapons. It'd be a lot of effort to go back and find the correct anchor points on 200 bows, 185 guns, and 108 crossbows (plus any "hidden" looks that I don't have collected and either aren't available anymore or just aren't in my mog list yet), especially since they just said recently in the Q&A that they weren't interested in doing that for any of the artifact skins. I hope they'll do it some day, but it doesn't feel very likely :( Maybe they'll at least let us keep this? I dunno, feels less objectionable than the wolf puppy pet, but that line's really hard to suss out sometimes.

It's even less likely to happen (because it's another aesthetic hunter-specific thing) but I'd love to see illusions for ranged weapons effect the ammunition instead/as well. I really miss the old blue glowing arrows (were those the engi ones, or were they from AV rep? I can't remember), or the arcaney arrows from Thori'dal (which actually seem to have their effect replaced? this is not the graphic I remember from TBC). Some weapons have their own special ammo already (the archaeology gun, Titanstrike itself, etc). I think just by virtue of the amount of ammo we fire off (vs how many e.g. swords people tend to wear) they'd have to tend toward more simple/classic era-style effects, but still.

(I also still want quivers/ammo pouches as a separate thing from MM-specific artifact looks, but now we're just getting into my aesthetic laundry list, rofl)

The visual's that are applied, are rather minor compared to most other weapons, you can barley see some enchants on the guns. As it's purley a cosmetic thing that does impact on any gameplay or distortion of graphical quality, I'm pretty confident that posting it here was ok.

As for wolf puppy pet making it's way into this thread too, I swear that thing is going to plague us worse than an Unholy Death knight (Just Die DAM YOU!)

It absolutely will die down, but it's gonna take a while :x It's also the most in-mind "harmless" thing that got hotfixed; mogging Hati into non-beasts via polymorphs and such had some actual gameplay implications (meta!Hati was gigantic, murloc!Hati was tiny) so it's not as good a comparison.

It's almost tempting, but I love my ranged combat far too much to ever give that up as my main spec

If SV was more how like Rexxar makes it look... then I'd maybe spend more time with it XD I plan to touch SV eventually, though mostly just to get that artifact appearance for completion's sake, lol

It appears as of 7.3 this has been patched to prevent it working. I have still got the weapon enchant applied to my gun but the method of applying a different weapon enchant no longer works.

Hasn't Blizzard heard? Every weapon enchant is a hunter weapon enchant!
