According to an interview with Jeremy, Chickens will also be getting an updated model.

Cool. They've actually had a better model for years (the chicken mount with the saddle geoset turned off) but never used it.

For all the old critters that are being updated, there could be one minipet that uses the old model, like "origami chicken". Also, I'm hoping gorillas get an updated model, but maybe they're too far down the TODO list to be done so far.

Gorillas really do need a model update badly. Along with Hyenas, they're the absolute worst hunter pet model. They've got so many odd moments of bending and contracting in their polygons that they're an eyesore to look at next to all the new, updated models. I do want a great ape pet, but I can't handle how ugly they look. They need a touchup like crabs and hyenas are apparently getting (and a less absurdly rare white/blue skin. I STILL haven't seen it in the wild).

One of the downsides of not getting Tel'Abim is that we aren't guaranteed Gorillas anymore. :c

I think we'll get new Gorilla and Monkey models, but it may or may not be at launch. I'm sure more and more isles will be introduced as the xpac goes on, so I would be surprised if we don't get them at some point :)

Hah! I love the origami idea for the old, low-poly critters :D

Hopefully we’ll see new gorillas some time soon, as they sorely need an update. But I suppose they have to focus on what they want to add in KT and Zandalar first. I could see gorillas fitting in Zand.

Heavens yes. We need more monkey and ape models along with an update to the older one. Baboon would be sweet. Lemur and Golden lion tamarin. omg. If there was either of those in the game I would tame them in a heart beat.

Edit:
Some other families that need love. Tallstriders, Snakes (more realistic snake friends), rodents (though we got more from Argus recently), Ravagers (need more spiky ones! :D ), Moths (I want a luna moth), Dinosaurs, hmmm could go for some more insect types too.

We'll be getting plenty of new dinosaurs and insects in BfA. I can't see Ravagers happening, unfortunately, unless we somehow go back to Outland or Draenor. I can see snakes getting updated or added to in BfA, and possibly Tallstriders.

I want Yetis as part of the Gorilla family. They're practically apes with horns at this point.

Whether it is the Yetis of EK and Kalimdor or those of Northrend, they are both considered too intelligent/sapient to be tamable. The Yetis in Northrend are capable of speech and understanding, whilst those of EK and Kalimdor cannot, but are still intelligent.

To counter that point, do remember that at least the following are also intelligent enough to be as sapient as us; owlcats, wind riders, spirit beasts (specifically Loque, who is related to Harkoa), various raptors, and almost definitely more. A smart animal is still an animal, and Hunters are pretty much masters of animals that aren't Druids in disguise (though we should be able to tame druids, come on Blizz).

Owlcats and Wind Riders aren't capable of speech. We've debunked that before. The only Owlcat that was intelligent was the one that grants the hidden feral skin, and it was a Wild God. Wind Riders are capable of understanding Orcish and Taurahe, but they cannot actually speak those languages. Gryphons can understand Common and Dwarvish, but not speak those languages. Hippogryphs can understand Darnassian, but cannot speak it.

We don't know if Loque is a Wild God or simply a normal beast that was empowered by Harkoa. Loque is Harkoa's mate, and Harkoa is a Wild God/Loa. Due to the fact that Loque never, ever speaks to us to anything, unlike Harkoa, then he is probably just a normal beast. In regards to Spirit Beasts in general, they all vary so greatly that you cannot apply a single rule that applies to them all.

Raptors are a debated subject. There are raptors that show intelligence, and then there are those that aren't. Even for those that are intelligent, it isn't entirely clear if they are sapient or just very smart.

Yetis are sapient and fully capable of speaking languages like Common (the Northrend variety, anyway). Besides, they've been labeled as Humanoids since Vanilla.

Oh, you already can. It's called marriage.

Various specimens from numerous pet families have a wide range of sapience. It's a mistake to continually get hung up on that when blizzard has shown its a lot more arbitrary and case-by-case than that, whether or not something is made tameable. If someone wants the yeti to be considered apes, then there absolutely nothing invalid about having that desire.

Plus "taming" is simply an in-game mechanic. Taming does not mean enslaving. Its befriending, bonding. I have befriended creatures of all levels of intelligence IRL

A single specimen does not constitute the entire family. Ursoc and Ursol are bears who are Wild Gods. Not all bears are Wild Gods. Ashamane was a panther that was a Wild God. Not all panthers are Wild Gods. Shadra is a spider that is a Loa, but not all spiders are Loa. Exceptions such as these are usually far and few.

I'm all for more things being tamable, but I am not going to ignore the lore just for that to happen. Yetis have shown in general to be as intelligent as a normal race, and that is because they are race. Of course you can befriend one, but that is akin to befriending a normal race. If you can tame a Yetis, why not a Gnoll? A Tortollon? A feral Worgen?

I remember that  But then, we didn't know just how sentient/sapient Worgen were. We didn't know they were originally Kaldorei that were lost to the Scythe of Elune. The original lore was that they were beasts summoned from another world/dimension. Aside from those experimented on by Arugal (who were originally humans), the Worgen found in Ashenvale and Duskwood were believed to be mostly beasts. Still, Blizz didn't allow us to tame, and when that situation of one being tamable did happen, they explained that creatures like that (humanoid) should not be tamable. I would say that applies to the Yetis.

I think those knuckle walking, clearly apish yetis, would be great as ape pets. They certainly have that pet qualia in my opinion.

Well then, Hozen should also be tamable pets because, like Yetis, they are apish, walk on their hands/knuckles, and are capable of speaking common.
