Edit: Anyway, the new thread is up and stickied. Hopefully this will help clear up some of the issues we've been seeing! We can't do anything about any mod problems that happen to exist at the moment, but we can pick our butts up and do some cleaning! So let's all get to it!

If you have reported a post and you feel that it hasn't been dealt with in a timely manner, please PM 'Global Moderators' - which includes this account and Mania - with details.

Moderator should have explained why this is useful. Sending a PM sends e-mail to all the moderators, alerting even the one who are not on duty that something needs to be looked at.

This is why I'm saying that a good part of any sort of change that occurs has to come from the community itself. A lot of the issues that are coming up now are the same ones that we faced. Hands on moderation, hands off moderation....it doesn't change the basic lack of effort on the community's part of police itself. Saying "oh, the mods should be responsible for that" doesn't help the problem. If you know better, then why make more work for whoever is keeping things in line behind the scenes?

I don't know if I should, but this makes me feel good about trying to help police a bit around here (I don't know if many people have noticed, but I do whenever I see something). I feel less like I'm overstepping boundaries that shouldn't be touched and more like I'm being helpful.

Sorry for the double post, but I felt like the new thread should have a post all its own so it's less easily missed.

That is the sort of thing that's helpful. It's productive and helps move the forum in a more positive direction.

Oh gosh I sleep in and all of a sudden everything has taken off wonderfully! I'm so proud. Not in a stuck-up snooty parental kind of way, because I certainly wasn't the one who came up with the ideas - I'm just proud of the community as a whole. Taking steps to better itself. Heartwarming stuff.

Well, I still stick around because I like it here. For the most part, I ignore the "Lost x pet to y griefer and I hate my life" threads because they're all the same (no offense meant to people who lose their pets).

Starting something negatively is only going to breed more negativity. It is up to you, the individual, to not let yourself be dragged down into it. I can speak from experience because this very thing is going on at work. There's a lot of negativity going on and I used to let myself be pulled down with it. I had to make the conscious decision to do my job and do it well regardless of what was going on around me, and to deflect or avoid negative situations.

Mods and Mania can only do so much, don't expect them to do what we can easily do ourselves, which is make a conscious effort to be more positive and to avoid negative feelings/threads/etc.

We are all capable of igniting change, so we need to make it happen, one person at a time. Eventually, when the griefers and nay-sayers aren't getting the reaction they want, they will either change their attitudes themselves or leave.

We all have no one to blame but ourselves.

Edit: About the Dante and Chitter things, I never saw it as a clique or club or whatever. If someone was new and wasn't "up to speed", so to speak, all they had to do was ask and someone would answer or link the thread or whatever. I personally have seen it happen. I don't recall anyone ever treating it as some VIP club, lol. And if people choose to name mobs, who cares? This may be news to some, but WoW is an MMORPG, and if some people like to RP by naming mobs, then let them. I never referred to either mob by those names and I was never spurned or ridiculed for it. O.o

About the slang and distasteful wording.....well, you may continue to talk however you want outside of the forums, but if the forum owner doesn't wish for that language to be used here, she has every right to make that request and we should show enough respect to honor that request. If you don't like that, then don't be a part of this forum, period. It has nothing to do with you being an awful person, it's just a simple matter of "dem's da rules, like it or leave it".

We do need less of the people correcting other people for poor grammar, punctuation, etc. I'm very anal about that stuff myself, but I know that not everyone else I encounter is going to be an English major. As long as I can understand the point they're trying to get across, that's all that matters. It may not be the prettiest sentence, but it doesn't need to be.

There is a centipede on my wall and I'm about to throw my monitor at it. I HATE centipedes. I love most other bugs but those things are just vile and disgusting and...bleh! (Hey, look, a tangent! *chases*)

Ummm...I think I've pretty much summed up my thoughts. Most of them are probably just regurgitated from previous posts on these past six pages, but oh well. I'm entitled to my opinion, too, even if I am late to the party!

I think the TL:DR of all of this is, stop blaming other people for the state of the forum. You, forumgoer, either have or have not contributed to the negativity going on around here, period. If you saw a negative thread and responded to it in anger, then you are every bit as guilty as the person who started it. I admit, I've probably done it a couple times. I'm pretty laid-back so it takes a lot to rouse my anger, and I'm usually still pretty good about keeping it in check, but I'm sure I've done it in the past, too. I made the decision long ago to not respond to that sort of thing.

Oh and P.S., I think I'm very glad that I stepped out of WoW when I did, these new rares sound like a nightmare and I'm glad I saved myself that headache! /cuddles XBOX

Edit AGAIN: lol, sorry. I didn't even know Saturo was banned. I probably should be glad I wasn't involved in that drama, whatever it was. Man, I really have been gone a while, haven't I? Well, it wasn't because I thought this forum sucked or anything, I just got tired of my computer in general and have been playing console RPGs. Hmm, well, I am kinda sad to see her go. Not sure I'd call it a shitstorm or even a shitshower. That would be the case if the remaining forumgoers decided to tear each other apart over one little drama-inducing post. Instead, we've responded with a call to change and people answering that call. Things are getting better.

Edit: I'm just curious, how many of us would like to go back to the old style of moderation? I wasn't around for whatever went down (wheee, school), but I know that I, at least, am not satisfied with the moderation as it stands.

I don't mean to offend the people behind the moderator account, I just want to know who else feels the way I do.

(I also do not want to bring up whatever happened. Idk what happened in detail, and I don't want to go into it here. Someone will inevitably get offended.)

@Pengu: Less of a shitstorm, more of a happystorm, although I don't doubt she's lurking - or at least did to begin with. Not to dirty her name but that seems to be the trademark of all forum flounces. Leaving FOREVAR + angry message + log out and lurk + drink the tears of the people 'hurt' by your oh-so-edgy passive-aggressive comments = profit. Needless to say that sort of backfired.

I don't know how I feel about going back to the old moderator situation. Apparently it caused a lot of fuss, and while I know most people are happy to let old grudges go there's no telling if people will get nasty again if we bring individual moderators back. While I'd like to avoid that I think it's going to be inevitable no matter what we do, and I for one would be happy to see them return. After all, you can't please everyone, but maybe we can find a compromise here...

The issue with the old system was that the mods were challenged when attempting to uphold the site's rules. That was a situation that didn't work for a variety of reasons. If there was a distinction between the Moderator account for upholding the site's rules and perhaps more visible, named moderators for the day to day business of purging spammers and moving threads, would that be more preferable to the forum at large?

I honestly don't mind just helping clean up spam and what not. That said, I'm really shocked at her attacks on Dante, people's pet naming and - eh. I get miffed when people set off my NPCscan while camping but to me it depends on if they're being rude or just running around with a pet. I usually ask that they let me know when they're done so I can safely clear my cache. Most peeps are genuinely cool with that. That said, if they're being rude - I start twitching.
