It might be, but not sure how far south they can be seen from. I got the picture from here, it's from a place called the Jurassic Coast in southern England:

It depends. The auroras can sometimes extend much further from the poles. On rare occasions they can even be seen here in Melbourne, which is an equivalent latitude to the Mediterranean in the north. The first time I saw one here I was gobsmacked.

I live in one of the northern most states of the US, so we can see them rarely too around this time of year if a strong enough solar flare or enough of a CME hits Earth, or if there's just more than usual solar activity.

The picture was taken, I believe, in the UK?
That's actually slightly further north than we are here in Québec (always shocks me to realize this), and we regularly see aurora in the late summer.

The pictures could also be the result of a long exposure, however.
They're confusing because of the horizontal aspect of the swaths of light. one would expect somewhat more linear effects from long exposure of moving light sources in the night sky.

Still a beautiful pic, I have to agree with everyone else.
