What are you reading right now?

Since I spend so much time reading, I thought a thread to share our books might be fun. You can post a favorite book if you want, but I'm really most interested in knowing what you are in the midst of reading right now.

Note: Please feel free to link to Amazon, Barnes & Noble, etc. Text-only affiliate links are also permissible, but please label them with a little [affiliate] label. Thanks!

(For those who aren't sure what that means: If you have an affiliate account with one of these sites (and they are very easy to set up), you can link in such a way that, if the person who follows your link buys something, you get some small amount of money. It doesn't cost the person who follows the link anything and it can be a nice way to encourage people to share their favorite books. On the other hand, some people would prefer to avoid affiliate links, which is perfectly understandable, and so labeling your links gives people the option of going to Amazon and typing in the name of the book themselves.)

The thing 'bout me is that I can't focus on one thing at a time. :D

I'm currently reading Rise of the Horde, The Janson Directive, and this post.

I'll start! (Edit: Okay, I won't start then. :))

Last night I finished Deadtown, a nice little urban paranormal book in the vein of Kim Harrison's Rachel Morgan series. The main character is a shapeshifter who kills demons for a living. The plot was a bit trite, but the writing was very good.

I haven't selected a new book yet, but I have some free books backlogged on my Kindle so I should have something to read!

It's Robert Ludlum, and the plot is too long to be posted... Wikipedia to the rescue! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Janson_Directive

Basically, he's on a botched mission, and ends up with assasins following him, so far so good, right!? Turns out, someone also put lots of money on his banking account! And then hes being chased for bank robbery or something. I have'nt gotten very far yet, as you can see...

I just finished the most recent book from the Warriors Cat series. =D They are 'Childrens' books, but regardless, if you like cats, check them out.

I'll also recommend The Sight by David Clemet. My favorite book! \o/ (Also check out Fell, the Sights sequel and The Fire Bringer)

I just finished reading The Outsiders by Dean Koontz last week. Pretty good novel through and through, but the ending felt a bit anti-climactic.

I need to get my hands on some new books. :) Or I might just start re-reading the Song of Ice and Fire series for the hundredth time.

While I wait for book 5 of the Song of Ice and Fire saga by George R. R. Martin, I just now am rereading The Dragonbone Chair by Tad Williams and coming close to the end of book 1 right now. Had you asked a weeak ago, I'd be reading The Belgariad by David Eddings, wich I even was reading in english.
Coming right up after The Dragonbone Chair will be The Lord of the Rings, wich I've read so many times in german and want to try and tackle it in english.

Now don't you tell me you love those books too?

Trust me, as far as the Swedish translation goes, that series is much better in English.

What a coincidence -- I also read the Belgariad in English! *grin* I've been told The Dragonbone Chair is very good, but I never got around to checking it out.

Alue: What is The Sight about? (And as a side note, I also read a lot of children's and young adult books. There's some good writing in that category.)

As for youngsters books, only the Harry Potter series could get me attracted and even there only the english original got my attention. I didn't like the translation very much.
If you don't mind having the main character complaining all the time what a nobody he is and how he never gets to do stuff so you know he'll be the hero ini the end right from the start, then you should check the DBC out. It's a nice reading and it got some humor in it, in the right places, making it even better.

The week after christmas i started to read the last two books in the Darren Shan Demonata series and finished them both in 3 days i think? But that's only because they're short, which in turn dazzles me, as Darren Shan mainly writes for teenagers so it's quite a short novel...either that or i just read books that adults read.

Ahh .. perhaps I'll skip it for now, in that case. :)

I remember reading The Sight! I loved it, but the ending made me cry  . I haven't read Fell, though I have seen it in bookstores.
I just recently finished reading "Leviathan" by Scott Westerfeld. It has a fantastic story that takes place around World War I, and it has some steampunk and historical touches. It also has at least one beautiful illustration per chapter. I absolutely loved it, but unfortunately, the second book won't be coming out until around October 2010. :x

Yes. Great work there Kara.

I was just afraid of writing in that thread, since it might interrupt your storyline...

I don't recall what it is called or the name of the first book. I mostly look at the title of the book onece then the back and then forget what they said wile reading lol. Its a sort of a vampire porn thing...only their not vampires they are some thing elts....erm its kinda hard to explain what they are. But the books are verry good, exiting, funny, and SEXY!!

-eye twitches- Twilight... I'll strangle it.

ANYWAYS, to Mania, I'll give you the plot introduction from the Wiki Article.
At the beginning of the novel, a Dragga (the term a wolf uses for the Alpha male of a pack) named Huttser, and his mate, the Drappa (The term for Alpha female), Palla, seek a cave in the side of a mountain in which Palla had grown up, and where she can nurse the cubs that were growing in her womb. They are trying to find this cave in order to raise their cubs in secret from Morgra, Palla's evil half-sister. Much pain and hate consumes the pack and one by one they learn their mistakes and hold fast to each other and learn the power they possess as a pack, but will it be too late to help each other this time?

Haha, I re-read The Sight last year. I still love it, though I think Clemet could stand to branch out his vocabulary a little; he sometimes reuses words over and over when some variation would be nice. I bought a book of his the other day that had some sort of bird of prey on it, though I forget the title off hand. Hope it'll be good.

Presently I'm re-reading a whole bunch of R.A. Salvatore's work out of sheer nostalgia. Just finished The Dark Elf Trilogy and now I'm on to Icewind Dale Trilogy. Drizzt is cool before he becomes a total Mary-Sue, and I always loved the Menzoberranzan/drow worldbuilding. :)
