Re: 8.1 Beasts
One thing that I found which was a trigger for me, the whiskers.
On the new cat they are very prominent, which for me also tricks me visually to seeing more rattish features in them. Without (insert photoshop skilled person here) I have a feeling it would also make them look/feel truer to their original/expected feline version.

Re: 8.1 Beasts
As for the new cat model, I think it looks fine (though I'm not a cat person), and so far it isn't being used as a replacement for another model. If it remains just another cat model (among the very high number of cat models we already have!) then at the very least it will offer a new appearance variation in that family. If it turns out to be a replacement for the older model(s?) then maybe I'll judge it on different criteria.
If it wasn't for the fact this patch is focused on the night elves, maybe I'd feel the frequency with which new cat models are released (at the expense of other models) was a little excessive, but this time it's probably justified. Having said that, I would have preferred to see faithful updates for the three original cat forms rather than an 11th new cat (even more if you include purely spirit beast cats).

By the way, if you'd like to see direct comparisons of the old and new tallstrider models in more poses than Petopia offers, check out the Warcraft Mounts pages for these creatures. Each different mount has four matching poses for each, and you can click on the little thumbs to quickly morph one into another.

Re: 8.1 Beasts
I experimented with some animated gif transitions for the tallstriders, hopefully I can do more in the future. Unfortunately it's too big to post here :/ But you can see it attached to this tweet:

Re: 8.1 Beasts
Very well done, Wain! Looks really good
Re: 8.1 Beasts
I'm still on the fence when it comes to the new tallstrider model. I do think the legs are an improvement, but something about the rest of their bodies just seems kind of not-great to me. I can't really put my finger on what it is, though. Part of that may just be because I've had Peck (formerly Mazzranache) since my hunter's early days leveling in Mulgore back in Vanilla. It might just take some time for me to get used to the new look and accept it.

Re: 8.1 Beasts
I love them...except for the lack of orange belly on the orange and blue. Maybe it seems like a small detail, but it's huge to me since that one has always been my favorite, in large part due to the orange belly.

New Baby Raptor models
Re: 8.1 Beasts
Keep an eye on this mob: https://ptr.wowhead.com/npc=148787/alashanir in case it turns out to be tameable.
It's a purple chimaera (rylak) that will drop a mount of the same colour in the upcoming Darkshore warfront. Presumably it'll just be a vignette mob like the mount droppers in Arathi.

Re: 8.1 Beasts
Could be. Depends on what level it is, but hopefully it'll be tamable or at least there'll be a mob somewhere that is.

We might be able to tame Crawgs or Blood Ticks in 8.1 (hopefully both)

Re: 8.1 Beasts
HELL YES (POSSIBLE) CRAWG TAMES IN 8.1! This makes me stupidly happy. Hunter will get ALL the love in the next patch, screw my raiding character. I'm getting that tome before doing anything else. If we don't learn where it comes from by 8.1, I'll gladly let my time lapse until it's discovered. I need a crawg. NEED.

Re: 8.1 Beasts
Very neat! I kinda expected that it may happen at some point, though a bit surprised that it did.
It's a good thing that I included Crawgs and Blood Ticks on my Beta list.

Well, Crawgs are confirmed.
Hopefully it includes Bloodticks. I'm guessing not, but those are the ones I'm interested in.

It would be weird if it's only crawgs since the icon for learning the "spell" itself is a blood tick. Still an awesome news though!
