What is the name of the mob? I can go try it out as I am out of things to do now that I have this beauty.

The same could be questioned about the Green Outland raptors in Blade's Edge with Fel Infusion buff, as it's a buff that's channeled, then added after like 2 seconds.

Just tamed him about an hour ago. After about ten fails I took off enough gear to bring my tame up to 9 seconds long, then using the timer and with tame hotkeyed to R I had the bird trapped and after about a fraction of a pause once it hit 50 on the timer I hit tame. I don't quite remember what happened next other than it seeming like I had failed, but I didn't, so I relogged, and I saw him on my character screen and then there he was when I logged back in. Sorry it's so vague, I am pretty tired. Very pleased though, I love challenges when it comes to getting a new pet. Named him Curufinwe, I try to keep to a Silmarillion theme to my pets, but still haven't figured out a good name for Krush.

Thank you, original poster, for finding out about this trick!

Been trying for about a half hour, can anyone give me some advice?

So far I lay a trap exactly where the bird is about to spawn, position the wing guard, finish off the wing guard then wait till the ice trap has about 10 seconds left and attempt the tame. I had a few attempts where I had to revive the pet with no success and other attempts where the bird dies before I can finish the tame. I'm practically doing this naked, I have NO haste gear on.

EDIT: Just tamed! If anyone is discouraged just keep playing around with your ice trap timers until you get it right. My next question is will the pet still keep its aura when put in and taken out of the stables?

Edit: Just got him now! Now I have to think of a name...

Yes, it keeps everything when it dies, taken in stables, anything.

Thanks for this. This was the very first pet I went after when the shattering hit. I've always had a thing for the vultures since vanilla, I like ghost models, and blue/greens, so the glow is just icing on the tri-fecta.

Wanted to also mention that the cloud leaves a trail when your moving around which is kind of cool and that these things start off as aggressive when you log back in, so if you're taming it around lv.66-68 just heads up cause it's gonna take off towards the first group of mobs it sees.

Heres Scythe, with icing

Got it after about 10 or so minutes. The hardest part was actually getting to Outland from Dalaran. I waited until 49.5 seconds left on the stopwatch to begin taming. Presently failed attempts was roguhly 48.5 to 49. I'm glad I got a chance to grab him. I really hope I can get my undead Hunter to 70 soon so I can tame this beauty with him. It fits his ghostly theme.

omg ty so much for the guide. The tame timing is dead on correct at 49 seconds. the only part that is tricky for me was to not kill the wind guard before he manage to summon and also to have the timer on. Managed to tame it after a few tries :).

o btw to future tamers, once summon, it becomes mighty aggressive.

*If you succeed, it will not appear in your pet tray, and you will nót get a fail message for your tame, you will have to relog for your pet.
I WONDER. That's what I did to the Ghostpaw Runner, and he mysteriously disappeared--it said I had too many pets, but when I relogged he was there.

I wonder if this is the same... Gonna try this (mostly because that effect is beautiful) and perhaps learn something about the ghost wolf tame.

Thanks for the guide, this is an awesome find :)

Well, considering that Blizzard tried to disable flying in hunter pets today, this will quickly become a moot point.
They did?

They disabled it yeah, seagulls are broken.

By the way, interestingly enough--as with the Oil-Stained Wolf, this bird when finally summoned is on Aggressive by default. I know people have mentioned it, but I've not seen anyone mentioning that the Oily wolf is the same! I wonder why they are Aggressive if they vanish while taming--could it be that they're Aggressive -mobs- and it somehow carries over?

The oil-stained wolf is actually a neutral mob when under the tame. So it's possible, but something to consider there! Still, that's the most likely reason for it.
Come see Kurasu's stables!

Very cool, very cool! I'll have to try this on a hunter. Unlike the oil wolf's Northrend worg model, I actually enjoy carrion bird looks...:)

It is neutral while in the tame yeah, but an aggressive mob by default. I wonder if the neutral script for the food thingy would affect it?

Are there any other despawning mobs we can test on? Maybe taming a Ghost Saber as it despawns? (How long do they last?)

Just wondering if that's why they "start off" aggressive!

Edit--pic :) I may not keep it personally, but it really is beautiful & unique!!

Further edit... My guildmate ran up and said "Ooh I like it... Nice name too, it suits it." The bird immediately emoted "Whisper looks at (guildmate's name) and shyly tucks his head under his wing."

Awwwwww.

Awesome guide. I just tamed mine. As suggested, I preset my timer and started my tame when it hit 0; I had to play around with it (I didn't always manage to start it right at the exact time the bird was summoned), but I think I was using 49 or 50 when it completed. Good luck to everyone still trying!
