Correct! Silencing Shot is one of the optional talents open to ANY spec of hunter. That example should read aimed shot or chimera shot.

Personally, I dislike this change immensely. It detracts from the feel of each spec when previous talents that hunters identify with one spec are now available to the other two. When I'm in dungeons, I'm Survival for the AoE damage. Wyvern Sting helps a lot with patrols or loose mobs or in PvP. That's why I missed Survival so much when I switched to Marksmanship for PvP. Now, I can have Wyvern Sting too but it just doesn't feel the same. Nowhere is this identity crisis more apparent than in the Druid class. Seriously, my Feral druid can have Typhoon?!?! How does that make sense? I don't feel Feral anymore. I feel as if I'm Feral and Balance.

Druids of the Claw can do typhoon....and they're very feral. Just sayin.

I'd like to say thanks for your opinion. Here I was afraid we would only see people agreeing with my point of view. XD
And I got to admit, I never thought of it in that way. I can see where you're coming from, but I personally disagree. Each spec is still going to get a number of unique spells to them, and of course they'll continue to play differently. A doubt a few utility spells will significantly change how one spec will play. A cat druid will still play like a cat. They'll still pounce on things and slice them into ribbons. Just that now, some of them will also be able to summon up winds to knock their prey back should they need to. You can always ignore that talent if you feel that it distracts too much from the feel of your character.

((Your cat/bear druid will be able to summon treants too, should you choose that talent. :P ))

Druids of the Talon can do it too, if you'd like to broaden it.

All in all, I'm pretty sure since Warcraft (not WoW), Druids have all been able to use it. Specs is just a player thing in wow. In Warcraft, druids can do all three...or four in this case.

In the past I've always just googled the best raiding spec, so if this new system will allow for more personal choice, that's fine by me. It may also be a better incentive to level alts faster, since the reward of another talent will come a lot less frequently

So they are getting rid of all of the “minor” tree abilities like the 5% kill command crit, procs like breaking dawn (pallies) and replacing the trees with just the options for the “main” abilities? If so then I agree with you.
If I am reading all this right then I’m not too impressed. Why? It feels like its dumbing things down in my point of view. I like all the little extra bonuses you get from the old tree. it’s all those little details and choices that often add up to being a lot of help, giving you choices and options depending on what it is your planning to do and also just make the class seem a bit more real and detailed. I like how you can choose one of three abilities per tier which is interesting and I like the options but at the same time it kind of ruins some of the things that make “that one spec” special or different from the rest. So I’m undecided on that…hmmm…
My two overall biggest complaints about the revamp itself (not the talents just the overall changing of things) is you have to be lvl 90 to reach the bottom. Yes this is understandable seeing how that’s the lvl cap but im like COME ON! You used to reach the bottom at 60, then 69 and now 90? >.< just let me fill the darn thing out before I die of old age please. But that’s just the lvl 70 twink in me talking and I can grudgingly admit that with lvl 90s on the way its probably a needed change. But Blizz just revamped all of the talents and whatnot last xpack and I just settled into the new talent trees… come on blizz do you really need to change the very core of the trees AGAIN so soon? Bleh.
I probably won’t officially be on one side of the argument or the other until more info comes out and I can see it in action. But first impression- not all that great.

Those sorts of talents are becoming baseline parts of their specs. You'll get that stuff automatically as you level. That's the general idea, anyway. They're the talents you'd be taking anyway, so there was no real "choice" involved.

Thank you for clearing that up. I still dont quite like the look of it all but that quiets some of my gripes.
