From what I see on Wikipedia about depiction of qilin throughout the Dyanasties, their appearances changes a lot over time and describe very different beasts. So I guess Blizzard have a lot of leeway in that regard. Not that they can't depict them differently anyway, as they have so many other beasts, but it seems there's no single definition of a qilin to adhere to. It looks like they've chosen the most mundane definition, which is not a comment on how good they look but rather that they don't look like a magical combination of beasts.

SB's response to your post didn't come across as a personal attack, or even patronizing. Just an explanation of his own thoughts on the matter. So I don't believe it required a hostile and defensive response.

Ahhk, i havent read wikipedia but i did look them up a lot at one time and found one definite representation of them being dragon and deer like and its really been the only version ive ever portrayed them in. But problem is they look like Fu Dogs which throws me through a loop cause if Quilins look like Fu Dogs in WoW, what would Fu Dogs look like if they were to introduce them into WoW o_O

I do find it just a bit annoying that these Qilins look more like Shishi than they do actual kirins. I really love kirins. My hunter is named Kirintaur (kirin-centaur) so if these become tamable, i will have to tame one but it will continue to annoy me.
When i think of a kirin, i think more of a deer/horse or even a deer/horse/dragon mix. I would love to see a kirin portrayed as the way they are on the Twelve Kingdoms anime(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpfhY55WbWc) but i suppose that a zhevra is as close I will get to that(if they ever become tameable).

No offense, but if they do add Quilin/Kirin, I hope they look like actual ones, and not just a unicorn with a different horn and padded nose. They're much more dragon like than that, with the Chinese ones being stout like an ox. They're heads should look similar to the Cloud Serpents I think.

If they go with something a tad more deer-like to be closer to a Japanese Kirin, then something like this would be cool.

Sorry, but Kirin (to me) aren't cutesy unicorns, heh. If you want a unicorn mount, there's the Zhevera one or the one from the Argent Tournament (ally only).

I'm mostly hoping those names for the dogs are just temporary or something right now, cause it's pretty obvious they're not Quilin/Kirin. I would tho like to see the non-stone ones be tamable tho.

I don't think that Blizzard is going to be that exact about the mythical creatures they use. They've never been. I mean, this is what a chimaera should look like:

Nobody seems to mind that the in-game creatures look nothing like that, or that Basilisks are supposed to be a cross between snake and chicken rather than a crocodile-like lizard.

Not saying that I don't want any of the "actual" Qilin in the game - they look great. But Blizzard has always just taken mythology as an inspiration, nothing more. They've never copied it.

Well... I too would like an actual Qilin/Kirin... But honestly I don't see Blizzard changing it. This isn't Chinese or Japanese culture, this is Pandarian culture. They at least spelled it differently. *shrug*
I dunno, I guess I'm just not that picky.

Yeah it's blizzs game in a world thats not earth so they can have creatures with the same name as an earth thing and not look the same.
