Should Parrots be in a new family;"Parrot"? Currently, all parrot models are in the grouo Bird of Prey which I find unsuitable, since parrots are generally neither carnivorous nor it is in the raptor family.

My suggestion; Introduce a new family; Parrot.

Diet; Fruits, Breads, Fungus

Special Ability; Chatter (same as monkey's fling)

The parrot mimics a voice of the same sound of the target; confusing the target for four seconds. 20 yard range.

Bonus ability; The parrot tells a joke ( random /silly that is exclusive to the Parrot family)

example of Parrot's silly;

"Ark Polly wanna have a phat lewtz Ark!"

Eh, normally I'd say yes. I mean, I do want another pet that has an ability equivalent to the monkey's, but as far as I can tell, Azerothian parrots are birds of prey. I think there's even a quest in Krasarang that describes their diet being meat and/or fish?
Basically, I'd rather have another more unique new family than moving parrots to their own.
I wouldn't complain if they were, though. :)

And hey, just look at the Kea! Parrots totally have the ability to be birds of prey! :lol:

I have parrots in my aviaries that are quite happy to eat meat. And I'd never ever walk through any of the chook yards bleeding. Wouldn't make it to the other side alive.

Personally I'm against adding new families unless it's for something that clearly does not fit into an existing one... and even then, I apply the same logic to pet spells, e.g. if their special ability seems like it would be essentially the same as an existing one, I prefer using an "imitation brand spell" like harden carapace.

So I would have to say "no" - for game purposes, "birds of prey" is really just a sexier name for "birds". Otherwise then seagulls would need their own family, and then every other family would have to be looked at for potentially splitting up herbivores / carnivores, etc.

It's not because I don't like new things, but because I want to avoid over-complication and also I feel classes should be defined as much by what they are as by what they are not, and the hunter class (by virtue of having an ever expanding variety of pets, on top of their basic 3 class specs) already has a considerable amount of diversity above and beyond the others as-is.

Seagulls really should have been carrion birds anyway. They behave like them more than they do birds of prey.

I suppose they could be, yes. Same idea though - use existing families where possible. That way the actual new families are kept bold and distinct.

Should Parrots have there own family? No, Parrots fit in quite well with Eagles and Hawks. Don't believe me? I can prove it with one bird, the Kea;

Watch these videos of how a Kea kills it's prey, pretty horrifying; Not for the weak hearted.

Keas will kill anything they can, including hikers' backpacks :P We were warned repeatedly on the Milford Track to never leave our packs lying about, even for a couple of minutes.

I'd say their actions are more like a scavenger or carrion bird, though. Most parrots scavenge / forage for food, rather than the watch-and-swoop of a bird of prey.

It's true they do that but it's mostly carrion than anything but they eat roots, leaves, berries, nectar, and insects mainly.

Indeed they will rip all your rubber off your car if your not careful. But it's mainly tourists who fall victim to them :lol: We never saw any wild ones when we where down in the south island :( made mum sad she really wanted to see one! Still we have them at the zoo... :S

You have to get up to a pretty high altitude to see them. We only saw them on the highest sections of the track. I got one to come right up to me for a photo by throwing down a piece of leaf, which it immediately ran up to check out. They really are lovely to see, as much as their destruction drives people crazy. They're very much NZ's equivalent to our cockatoos.

Ah we did not go that high up. That was back when dad had a bad hip. But I did see a Kaka in Zealandia last year and they are basically brown Keas :lol:

I'd like to see a Kakapo one day. I mean they come out at night and can't fly it's crazy!
