Cataclysm Beta

Well, the character copy page for Cataclysm Beta has gone active today.

I don't think many have beta keys at this point in time, just a very small group, but nonetheless I'm sure public Beta is probably close at hand which means we may start getting some information in the near future.

So again, don't expect to find a beta invite in your email just yet - this is most likely the closed beta for friends/press/etc.

MMO champion is saying alpha as people who think it was the beta might fall for phishing scams so until its the official open beta he is calling it the alpha

Friends & Family is usually the end of alpha or the beginning of beta.

Blizzard itself seems to be calling this just "Family & Friends" without a modifier. *shrug*

When you consider the state of character abilities in the reviews we got last month, I'd say late alpha. I'll wager all of Azeroth is done, and a lot of the new areas, and they are working on coding up new class abilities and talents and what have you. I still want to know about the changes. *Chuckles*

Do you actually mean the character copy page, Vephriel? Or just the beta opt-in page on Battle.net? They aren't the same thing, after all. The latter is definitely up, since Blizz have posted links to it and I just opted in myself, but I haven't seen any other references to the former being active.

Edit: Never mind, just got confused by the fact that this thread was originally about the "beta" label on the F&F alpha pages. Veph, given the thread title, it may be worth updating the original post with the beta opt-in info.

They have separate groups who do class abilities and landscape, so most of this can be done simultaneously.

I realize that, but they also tend to take these things one step at a time. Judging by the alpha, I'd say that's pretty much what they'd done.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
Now it's getting late in the EU and just before I head off for some sleep I went on MMO-CHAMPION, and there's a Korean competition but there's also a competition for EU/US in which you send an email to Blizzard stating why YOU and nine guild members are suitable for winning Beta keys! Can't go into great detail so here's the link!:
