I posted the most likely used model and color scheme in that 5.2 Weapons thread I made. The icon has been datamined and shown but the model hasn't yet, by anyone except you and me.

Also, it's the reward for Mantid archaeology, which looks to be the new archaeology race in 5.2.

Other items and Mantid archaeology fragments have been datamined.

( I hope for a Kunchong mount somewhere along the line. )

Waint, mmo-c linked a video (at least once) of all the weapons and I think that was in there.

All the Mantid artifacts so far datamined are the common ones. The gun is probably one of the two? rares. Wish the other one was a pet (Amber-Preserved Swarmborn? Miniature Kunchong?) or a mount (flying amber-skinned wasp?).

You know, I think I would prefer the Kunchong as a pet. I can already see the pet journal description: "Even the brutal Mantid paragons need the companionship of a trusty pet. This tiny kunchong was bred with a special adorableness gene lacking from most of his species."

Guys! Imagine if there was a special rare artifact off the Mantids that would teach you to tame Kunchon - similar to the way we get Dire Horns!

Not that it would ever happen of course.

If there were a Kunchong pet, I think I'd start hating Blizzard so much, after obtaining it, of course.

No really. It always hurts when beasts that should've and couldve become tameable and would've easily pleased the hunter community aren't introduced as pets.

Yes, I know Blizzard has done a lot to make hunters happy, but it just.. bothers me.

And after all, it's not really too flat and easy to say. Cat lovers get a new bunch of pets almost every expac. I don't say it out of contempt, but it is true. I do think the tiger models are gorgeous and they've even tempted me, (I have Savage) but sometime I wish the more niche beasts also got a shot. Y'know, spread the family love a bit?

Anyway, this is going a bit off-topic. But yes, this is a Mantid archaeology weapon. Fragments were datamined, as well as some other nondescript items. (they have no icons and all that yet)

If Blizz is willing to go far with archaeology, they could add a lot of good stuff to Mantids.

EDIT:

Golden, I would jizz. A lot. That'd actually be rather cool. Hngh..

*off to Blizztwitter*

EDIT2:

Would be so cool if they made http://ptr.wowhead.com/item=95386 an item like that, Golden.

The Mantid keep Kunchong under control using those sound waves, yes?

Would be so cool if they involved Kovok's master. It says that without Mantid help, the item is useless. Basically, the hunter should be able to take it to Kovok's master and ask him to help the hunter use it to tame Kunchong.

Damn, sorry I missed that :) I just ran across it while actually looking up alt colours for old Ulduar weapons.

And yes, a Tome of Kunchong Taming would be awesome!!

I suggested it to Ghostcrawler, but like always, it probably won't be answered. I don't mind, as long as he at least sees it.

Tome of Pterrorwing and Tome of Kunchong Taming pls.

Actually, a similiar solution would even work for both. Both have flying and land animations. Both can be solved with a toggle aesthetic-only ability like trick. Basically, only the animations change and the abilities remain the same. That'd be cool, because I actually like seeing both of them, especially Kunchong fly. It gives them that extra bit of life old pets don't have.

I'd suggest it to one of the other Devs or CMs.. GC only usually responds to class balance stuff...

Sorry for continuing off topic...

I'd say it was because he's already been clear about hydras for now. He doesn't want them tameable. Maybe if the new hydra heads are grafted on to an equally awesome body they may change their minds.

Its' true, and it's not like they won’t follow through one day, in fact I heard something pretty similar not that long ago ;)

The reason? they need a better looking model for em.

The tweet:

Q: "Oh and where is my bat mount? Bats have been taxis forever and it's still not a mount. Hook a forsaken up!"

A: "We need a better looking bat model, but after that, for sure."

And what have we got now?

Indeed. They never said we won't ever get them. They just don't like the model. They need to revamp them. So we need to be patient and probably stop asking them the same question they already answered awhile ago. ^^; I've been tempted to ask a few times but I didn't wanna be a pest cause they already answered it before. Maybe we can ask em what they have in mind for hydras?

I'd certainly be curious to know if the new heads are going to appear on a body!

But, anyway, we should probably get back to rifles :)

Do we have any datamined stats for it yet?

I'm wondering if it be in line with the new tier, or if it will have starter pandaria stats.

Just checked, it's not in Wowhead yet. I'm starting to get a bit nervous that we might not get it.
